Nosler shows 47 grains of R19 as max. Your rifle will have a sweat spot within a grain of or two of that.

The Sierra #5 manual and the Hornady #6 each list loads for the 260 Rem. I have worked up loads for my model 77 all weather using Rem bulk 120 gr bullets from Midway and with 120 gr NBT's. I have had no trouble reaching 3000 fps with either bullet in combination with H414, IMR4064, and with H4350, though my rifle requires about 2.5 gr more powder to reach a specific velocity than suggested from the Sierra manual. I have currently loaded 100 rds of 120 gr Rem over 43.0 gr IMR4064 @ MV 2950 fps(1 gr over listed Max Load in Sierra #5) for use this deer season. I can only say that accuracy is adequate for deer hunting, as this rifle is now set up with iron sights.
I can't argue with the earlier recomendation of Partition bullets or any other premium type, but I am very comfortable with the use of Balistic Tips or the Remingtons mentioned above on deeer sized game. My son brought home a nice 2 point buck mule deer 2 years ago using this rifle with the 120 gr NBT.

Any bullet weight will work quite well in the 260.,

If you are looking for fast and flat shooting, the 100 grain Partition with a load of 43.5 grains of IMR 4064 will equal a 25/06 any day with an MV of 3350 fps out of my Ruger 77 in 260.

The 120 grain loads also are great, as is the 125 partition and the 129 grain Hornady. Rl 15 42.5 grains with a 125 or 120 grain bullet are another of my favorite loads.

40 grains of W 748 with a 120 grain bullet also gets honorable mention for accuracy.

As always, work up.

For the 140 grain bullets I usually load those in my 6.5 x 55.

The best bullet for the 260 is the Nosler 125 grain partition in my opinion.

Cheers and good shooting

A partner of mine has just bought a .260 Rem. in a Ruger Mod. 77 with a 1X8" twist and we are looking for the preferred load for this caliber.

The main question is which is the best bullet weight? The game will be deer at 100 yards or less.

120 gr.?

140 gr.?

Thanks,

Sam

SAM, I load the .260 rem. alot for white tail deer. I load 41.0 grains of RL-15 with 120 grain sierra. CCI-200 or 250 primer at 2944 fps. with ruger M-77 very flat shooting.
