Does anyone have some loading information for the 404 Jeffery? (FredJ338, I know you have some). My goal is to get approx. 2,250 fps with the following: 400 grn Woodleigh solid 400 grn Woodleigh softs 400 grn Swift A-Frame I also have some 380 grain Northfork CPS that I would like to shoot at +/- 2,250 fps. I should be getting my rifle back from the gunsmith soon and it will have a 25" Lothar Walther barrel. The powders that I have on hand for this project are: RL-15 H4831sc Varget I have new Norma brass and CCI Large Rifle Mag primers. Thanks! Tim

![]() If your rifle is adequately throated and your magazine of sufficient length it looks like you got a shoe in. Just a suggestion but it seems that one of the 4350s or H-380 might be in order. ![]() ![]() Old age is a high price to pay for maturity!!! Some never pay and some pay and never reap the reward. Shumba, I would look into Varget, my .404 is not far away either (1909 mauser) and I do not under any circumstances want to push the barrow so am looking for 2200 fps or there abouts from my 23 1/2" lothar barrel and I reckon 71-73 gr of Varget will get me there.

Nick Harvey's manual lists, for Varget/AR2208 and 400 gn bullet, starting load of 76 gns for 2240 fps; Max load 85 gns for 2450 fps [24" barrel]. Or for RL-15, Start 80 gns for 2400 fps, Max 84 gns for 2495 fps. H4831SC looks to be a bit slow for this cartridge.

Tim, when I get home I can look up the specifics, but for now I have settled on RL19 & IMR4831 unfer the 380grNF & 400gr Woodleighs. The 400gr run right about 2200fps, the 380gr about 2250fps from my 23" PacNor. I tried RL15, Varget & H4831sc but liked the load density of IMR4831 & RL19 better. Laszlo getting your rifle to you soon, sweet. We need to make a road trip to Tehachapi for some range time (private range, benches to 300). LIFE IS NOT A SPECTATOR'S SPORT!

I got very good results with 72 grains of IMR-4064, with 6.2 cc of Pufflon on top of that, using a 400 grain .065 jacket Hawk bullet, followed by the Lee Factory Crimp die. Winchester LR primers. 2300 fps, with low standard deviations between strings. You can substitute RL-15 for IMR 4064, but I would back off 5 grains or so, and then work up. Garrett

Gadge, Nick is a fair bit hotter than the ADI book.......................I reckon for my old mauser I will use the ADI data just to be safe.

Ok Tim; 75gr RL15 / 400gr Hawk = 2245fps 75gr RL15 / 400gr Barnes = 2247fps 85gr IMR4831 / 400gr Hawk = 2200fps 80gr H4831sc / 400gr Hawk = 2090fps My working load is: 84gr RL19 / 380gr NF = 2245fps, this load shoots consistantly under 1moa, the others about 1.5moa. I have some Barnes monosolids that run @ 2150fps w/ the same RL19 load. All loads are Norma brass & Fed. 215 primers. 75gr RL15 under your Woodleighs, out of your 25"bbl, should gey you around 2300fps. IMR4064 & VV150 are also promising. Next time I'm out w/ .404 I want to try H4350, RIP likes it & it is great in some other calibers I have tried. Let me know when you want to go shoot her. ![]() LIFE IS NOT A SPECTATOR'S SPORT!
