Point of this is for information ONLY . * Does anyone know the name of the do it yourself Shoot in Bore

conditioner or enhancer sorry can't remember the name or who makes it ?.

Have any of you used HBN on bullets and if so what did it do for you ?

Did it help with FPS gain or Accuracy Gain ?

Noticeable erosion reduction ?.

How many use or still use Moly coat or bullet coated with moly ?.

I'm simply curious is all . Thank You for your information in advance .

Tubbs Final Finish, Midway sells the bullets with the finish (grit) on them. I think Wheeler Brand also make a similar product.

I'm thinking it's the Tubbs Final Finish system too....

I use Moly I put on myself often still, got one rifle that has a ridiculous # of rounds through it with no loss of accuracy, and only minimal cleaning--pathc out the loose stuff and a every blue moon patch with Prolix on it.....

If you're talking about firelapping, then the David Tubbs product is it. However, there's at least one if not two companies making a ceramic coating that you shoot onto the bore. I can't tell which direction you are meaning.

Hey Doc, here is a thread where we discussed the Otis Life-Liner, or I think that is the correct name.

I still use Moly and coat my own. Will continue to do so until something better comes along.

Doc; several years ago I bought a couple ounces of bullet lube/2- 4 -1 sale, Lubrication Specialists, Calif IIRC. It was a clear liquid that looked like motor oil, it came in one ounce sqeeze bottles and the directions said you could coat bullets with it, also mop it in the barrel, or both. I did enough tests to use up one bottle, and gave the other away finally. I did most all testing with the 7mm Rem Mag. I fired 3 rounds over the chrony to get vel read for that day and my standard hunting load, then ran i patch wet with a couple drops of this stuff down the barrel, fired 1 over the chrony- velocity down 400 fps, neck and shoulder sooted black, pressure way down.Fired #2- vel down 375 fps, fired 3 and on and on after 14 rounds velocity was back to normal. I also did the tests with bullets coated with this stuff, regular and moly coated, lube wet wiped on bullet in loaded round, dry bullets tumbled in it and let dry for a day and loaded. In all cases it reduced pressure by varing amounts and reduced accuracy most times. Although I equated the accuracy loss to harmonics and internal balistics from the reduced pressure. So I started working up a load at the range with bullets coated with it and a dry barrel, long story short I gave up on it, never achieve better accuracy or velocity, but I was using a compressed load anyway, maybe a slightly faster powder would have done it?? What finally ended the tests was unexplained pressure spikes, maybe a bullet that didn't get coated as much as the others, who knows. I don't know if it is still available, you could do a search, but one ounce will coat several K bullets.
Yes I still moly coat bullets, but a lot less than I used to.

Still there. Not for my hunting rifles but might be just what one of your BR guns need

Thanks HotCore ; That's the stuff I couldn't remember Otis Life Liner !.

Did anyone ever try it ?. I personally dismissed it as funky yet I have not tried it .

I generally reserve judgment before condemning a product . It just seems the claims

were far fetched . No one is or has used HBN then ?.

I was trying to get a handle on whether or not any of this enhances accuracy ,

or diminishes bore wear or barrel end erosion .

I've heard pros and cons for FPS and Pressure peaks but nothing

of the above characteristics .

As for the Tubbs finial finish fire lapping , I lap my own barrels so I would agree

it does show accuracy improvements , as well as reducing copper fouling . Thanks Guys ...

I moly coat if the velocity will be more than 2600 fps.

Not even moly will get me past 3600 fps.

I don't do spray moly anymore.
I don't do ceramic media any more.
I don't do exposed lead tipped bullets anymore. I am tired of throwing out the media and bowl with lead contamination.
I don't wax coat bullets. I let my fingers get dirty while handloading and then wash them.

I do wash the bullets [before moly coating] in detergent if I think they are contaminated with oil.
I do coat with moly in a small Lyman vibrator with 2000 Copper plated BBs in 5 minutes.
I do separate the bullets from the BBs magnetically with a jet engine starter stator sliding in a plastic container for BB release.
I do clean the bore of all Copper fouling before moly burnishing.
I do burnish the bore with Lymman moly bore cream, and get one fouling shot, and then a perfect group, with no settling in groups.
I do get hundreds of rounds fired without cleaning.
I do put tape over the muzzle to keep out dirt when I fall down. The first shot gets rid of the tape.

Hey Doc, I never tried it. I was hoping someone on this Board had tried it, because I've been here long enough to know who to believe and who is full of doughnuts. Big Grin

I do essentially the same as Tnekkcc, but I still use good-old time-proven never-fail never-harm-the-environment Jacketed Lead Core bullets. Also use some B-Tips, but mine are a couple of Design Generations old and they still work fine.

You would think some "High Roller" like Tnekkcc, Bartsche, Vapo, Seafire, Woods, etc. would go on and try the Otis stuff and fill us in on it. beer
