I have quick load and quick target, but neither one of them is very intuitive to use for me. I was wondering if others have recommendations on software that does similar projections, and is perhaps simpler to use--maybe it's just my dumb ass factor, or I didn't read everything I needed to in order to get going, but it just seems a real PITA to use to me......

I think QuickLOAD is about as easy to use any such software. If you send me a PM listing the difficulties you've had, I'll try to help. Some comments on other such software can be found here.

ASDF, I'll send a PM in a bit. HC, I like the idea of being able to put in a powder, bullet, cartridge OAL etc. and get prediction of velocity, range of proposed charge weight (whether you're near max or not) and then taking a look and seeing which seems to be the most efficient powder or whatnot. With Quickload I have trouble getting the various fields filled out, i.e. searching and finding the right bullet quickly/reasonably, and inputting the other data needed. I like the idea of a drop chart etc. from Quickload, but I can't EVEN get that to work--I actually am wondering if my software is all intact.......

I have Loadtech. I think Quickload is a better product. Hey asdf I did hear back from the Loadtech people. They will be out with a new version in the next month or so. I'll let you know if it is any better. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

Fish30114: QL will do all the things you mentioned, but do not expect it to be accurate. No software can take a charge weight and correctly predict the fps; powder lot variations alone prevent this. It will give you a good idea which class of powder is best for an application, but it is not accurate enough to always correctly distinguish between two similar powders, eg. is 4064 better than Varget for such-and-such cartridge. It does a pretty good job of predicting top fps from a given peak pressure, but it can't reliably tell you what combination of powder and primer will do so; no such software can. ramrod340: thanks for the update. Please let me know how it looks. I thought I'd thrown my copy of Loadtech v.1 in the trash, but I found the disk in a box I unpacked this summer. I might get an upgrade, just for grins.

Hey Fish, I have Load From A Disk and you can not do that with the version I have. It is easy to use, and it is based on the Powley Computer model. It will give you a general Range of Powders that should be the most efficient(most velocity at a Safe pressure), but it is not specific as to which is the best. From what I've seen over the years with multiple rifles of the same calibers, they don't always prefer the "same" Powder anyhow. So if I found a Program that was that specific, I'd be less inclined to believe ANYTHING it had to offer. I don't have Quickload, so I can't help you there. ----- It is difficult to beat the old Powder and Bullet Manufacturers Manuals for Starting Loads. Best of luck to you.

It is my understanding if you bought the software from them you will get the upgrade free. We will see. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

The Accu Load 3.04 I have, is a nice thing but I don't know how it compares to anything else, which I don't have. Besides the 3.04 lists my wildcats and many others. roger Old age is a high price to pay for maturity!!! Some never pay and some pay and never reap the reward. Wisdom comes with age! Loadtech is simply the load portion of Accuload. They told me this last week that a new Loadtech was ready to come out. I wonder if that updates Accuload as well. I do agree it is nice to see your own wildcats in their data base. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

ASDF, thanks, my DSL went down last night, just back home from work. I think I just need to contact Quickload and bone up on the operation of the software. I can usually pick my way around and find the cartridge I want to run a load by on, but it just isn't straight forward and intuitive to my bad brain....I have trouble say going from whatever is currently loaded for say .308 to .270, I have to just click around a bunch and then I usually find it, but not always. Perhaps just using it more frequently would do it......probably just a 'loose operating nut'!

I broke down and bought Quickload several months ago. I am impressed with it as a very powerful program, but am still fighting with the parts of it that are not very intuitive. I've done a bit with putting together bullet files and gun files now....and some of the problems I ran into there were solved by trial and error. I think that once you figure it out it is quite a program. It is amazing to me that they can have such a long, detailed manual and still have lots of things not explained in it. Feel free to pm me with specifics and I'll see if I can help. Their customer service folks seemed quite helpful too.... Good shooting, Dan
