Forgive me if I'm missing something obvious, but the name of the bullet manufacturer is Hornady, pronounced "horn-a-dee".
Yet, I hear so many saying and even spelling it Hornaday.
Isn't that the name of a NASCAR Truck driver? I don't hear anyone say Siarra, or Noslar.
Any ideas?

I have a guy in my hunting camp that calls it Hornabee. Irritates the crap out of me. I guess if he said Hornaday I would be just as irritated.

It's also "loo-pold," not "lee-uh-pold."

I know a guy who pronounces Cabela's "Cabrela's" and Unertl "Yernelli". Drives me nuts.

People mispronounce words because they either don't take the time to read the word, are insufficiently educated to sound out a word they have never seen before or are just rednecks, who get most things wrong anyway. I fall into the latter class. Having been a trucker for 13+ years, I've heard every mangling of the English language possible. Mostly, it's just dumbfucks who can't read or can't read very well who destroy the mother tongue. The spelling of these people is enough to make a student of the language (such as me) want to hurl his cookies.

There is so many ways to pronounce words, depending on where you are and the dialect.

Also Yes the school system is not as it was once, Here locally they spend one week in 11th grade on the Bill of Rights. Then they wonder why the younger people do not vote.

I have heard many ways to pronounce my last name as well as spelling it, so after all these years. I do not get to hot under the collar any more but just say this is the way our family pronounces and spells our name. Then I have to live outside a city that has a local Indian name,(Native American).

This is a very funny thread its things we hear all the time and get a chuckle out of. One of my favorites is 30- Yard 6. And living in Hawaii I get to hear all kines of pronunciations of the Hawaiian names that just crack me up.

You ARE wrong. The Finns pronounce it Sock-o, which means everything else is wrong. Capiche?

It might help your case if you could use spell correctly.

"Hale" is someone's last name. "Hail" when used in conjuction with a location means "where I am from".

Also, it is "emphasis", not "emphisis".
