Found an old guy that knows a little about guns, and asked him about cast bullets for dangerous game: "PACO I ONCE KILLED AN ELEPHANT WITH A 280 GRAIN 9.3 CAST BULLET...BACK ABOUT FORTY YEARS AGO WHEN I DIDN'T KNOW YOU COULDN'T DO IT...SINCE ALL THE TURN OF THE 20 CENTURY HUNTERS HAD BEEN DOING IT FOR YEARS....ALSO THE EDITOR OF THE AMERICAN RIFLEMEN KILLED CAPE BUFF WITH A 375 H&H AND CAST SLUGS....AS LONG AS THEY ARE NOT BRITTLE AND ARE HEAVY FOR THE BORE SIZE 2200 TO 2400 WILL DO THE JOB... I HAVE to follow up on this...

The proper alloy makes the cast bullet act as a solid, and usually with more consistency than jacketed solids. The cast bullet will be shorter and, by definition, denser. I've never understood why the guys shooting low velocity big bores (under 2200 fps or so) would bother with anything else when they want a non-expanding bullet.

The only question now is the cost, and time, vs. just buying some of Gerards bullets... That HV looks really good. You get the ballistics of a bthp, with the killing power of a flat nose solid. Scary. gs

We don't use cast bullets bcause over the years it has been found that jacket bullet give better over all preformance.

p dog. For what? Shooting p dogs? Lots of people think cast bullets, in handguns, are superior to jacketed bullets. gs
