This powder looks like a good possibility for optimum velocities with 180-200 grain bullets in the .300 Winchester. Who has tried it and what are your experiences?

I chose RL22 instead. For the few rifles I've run across that didn't do well with RL22, improved greatly with IMR7828.
IMHO, IMR 7828 is the powder of choice for 180s in the 300 Win mag.

Thanks for the comment, Buckshot. IMR-7828 is a great powder and what I am currently using in my .300 Win and also .25-06. I have an opportunity to buy a quantity of RL-25 and was hoping to get some feedback on its performance from those who have used it.

I think its probably a little too slow with the bullet weights you have listed. Reloader 22 is a better choice, unless you use the heavier 220's and up.

I shot RL-22 for years in my 300 Winchester. Gave it up for RL-25. RL-25 at 82.5gr with 165 Nosler Accubonds with an OAL of 3.36" gives great velocity and accuracy in my Sendero. Works really well in my 257 Wby also.

From my experience with IMR-7828, which is slower than RL-22, I seriously doubt RL-25 being too slow for the .300 Win. 30378's comments above would indicate he likes it with 165s, so it should be in the right burning range for 180-200 grain bullets. The data I have seen looks as if it is only marginally slower than RL-22, anyway.

Why seat so deep with the 165 gr Accubond? Your Sendero magazine should accomodate an OAL of nearly 3.6". Is the leade on this rifle short enough to require the deeper seating? I've been seating out to about 3.58" in my Sako with Ballistic Tips and Accubonds.

I have found Re25 to produce the best results in the 300 win mag, 300 rum with both 180s and 200s, in particular, the latter. Accuracy is a toss up compared to Re22. For every pound of 22 I have on the bench, I have 4-5 pounds of the 25. IMO it does not get any better for the various long 300 magnums. I like it better than H1000, Retumbo, Re22, and IMR7828.

Good luck.

(Ps. Re25 is also now the favorite over the 22 for 3 police officers I know that load their own 300 win mags and 200 grain Aframes).

Huh, I never got to the Re25. Had good velocities and load density with the 22. I'll have to give it a try I guess.

I asked about rl-22 for my 7mm rem mag and this was an interesting responce I received..

*Barrel Erosion*
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Steve, just to clarify, after the initial firecracking and erosion, on several barrels in 7mm Mag, the barrels were toast. Once the barrels were replaced, and the powder was changed to H4831, we saw no more firecracking or excessive erosion. The barrels, that originally showed the erosion, would no longer perform to the standards, that were required of these rifles. Examination of previous take-off barrels, before we started using R22, showed no excessive erosion or fire cracking, even after 1500 rds. The barrels, same manufacturer, that were used with the R22 propellant, showed excessive erosion in as little as 450 rds.
The ammo, used by this agency, is loaded by an outside contractor, who must keep pressure, velocity and accuracy within very tight tolerences.

Re25 works great in my 300 WM. My favorite load is 83 grs. with 180 NBTs or Accubonds. Super accurate and velocity ~3300 fps with a 26.5" barrel.

I had two .300 win mags......I no longer have either since I use the .300 H&H and the .30-06 more!

I tried RL-25 and thought it worked fine with the 200 A-Frames but couldn't tell that it was superior to RL-22 and I use that in other cartridges so I phased out of RL-25.....

If you have it use it!

Stonecreek,

The load I posted is quite a bit short of a max load or max length. It is the combination of what has provided the best accuracy/velocity combo in my rifle. The combo is really unbelievable for a magnum rifle.
