So much depends on the rifle in question..I work up all my loads to absolute max then back off about 1 or 3 grs. load the same case as many times as it will reload properly, usually quit if I get to 10 or 15 with several trims.. Loose primer pockets are a good clue as to when to stop reloading a case.

It all depends on the rifle in question, not the cartridge in question.

This is especially true of old cartridges, which are made in new rifles using new actions that can handle much higher pressure.

We build many rifles for some of the older cartridge, using modern actions.

Developing loads for these we just follow normal procedure of load development.

We increase the powder charges until the desired velocity and accuracy is achieved, or until we encounter signs of any higher pressure.
