Fairly close in size to a 5.7FN necked down.

Do a water, or powder capacity weight comparison.

Several of us load AA1680 in the .17x28mm (.17x5.7)

9.5gr turns a 20 gr V'max out at 3460fps.

Main thing is DO NOT crowd max in these tiny cases as they will blow up very easy with just .1gr increase. I did it! 10.1gr fine 10 shots in same case. 10.2gr blew up!

Tiny cases are VERY TOUCHY!

Good luck, saubier.com is a friendly small cal board.

George

A .17 Hummingbird rifle for sale on Proxibid as per details below. Note the text says the .17 Hummingbird is the .218 Bee cartridge necked down to .17 calibre. The .218 Bee was itself based on the 32-20 case necked to .22cal.

Custom Winchester Model 1885 Low-Wall Falling Block Single Shot Sporting Rifle, #48455, .17 Hummingbird cal., 20.25" custom "Bullberry" barrel, blue finish, finely checkered two-piece walnut stock, no provision for sights, stylized lever/trigger guard. Barrel is marked "Bullberry-Utah" on the left side of the barrel in script. Topped with two-piece bases, rings, and a Lyman Junior Target fixed 15X rifle scope with an adjustable objective in gloss black, a dot and fine wire reticle providing bright and clear optics with threaded steel lens covers. Receiver was mfg'd in 1891. Rifle is in fine overall condition retaining approx. 95%-96% blue finish with the breechblock in the white. Rifle shows light scratches and handling marks. Receiver displays mild edgewear and small scratches. Stock is in near excellent condition with an exotic wood Schnabel forend, deluxe checkering, and ends with a solid rubber recoil pad providing a 13-1/8" LOP. Action functions well and locks up securely, bore is near excellent with crisp rifling. Gunsmith Fred Smith began the Bullberry Barrel Works in his Las Vegas garage in the early 80's, later moving the operation to the current location in Hurricane, UT. The .17 Hummingbird cartridge is a wildcat based on the Winchester .218 Bee cartridge necked down to .17 caliber. Est.: $1,000-$1,200.

That is my rifle. According to that, it is a 218 Bee necked to a .17. I see I wrote 22 Hornet for some reason.
I sent Bullberry a couple emails but they have not responded. Does anyone know them?

I wonder how close it is.....to the 17 Ackley Bee.

Here's a Martini 17AB.....circa 1968.
