What are you paying for primers nowadays? I bought 1000 Winchester Large Rifle (WLR) primers today at the Bass Pro Shop near Baltimore. They were $29.90, before sales tax. I can remember when you could buy a thousand large rifle primers for about $16. "How's that whole 'hopey-changey' thing working out for ya?"

No. Winchester does not make benchrest primers. The ones I got are standard WLR Winchester ones, marked "Large Rifle for Standard Rifle Loads, WLR." "How's that whole 'hopey-changey' thing working out for ya?"

I see that Graf has CCI primers #34 on sale for $59.49/5000. I have no experience with these. Have any of you guys used them? Are they worth buying? roger Old age is a high price to pay for maturity!!! Some never pay and some pay and never reap the reward. Wisdom comes with age! Sometimes age comes alone..

Jeeez, Louise! Getting old sucks...mainly because I HAVEN'T lost my memory. I just finished using up (all but a couple hundred) Western (Winchester) primers I paid $3.00 per thousand for.. Luckily, I still have about 40,000 Federals left for which I payed $8 per 1,000, and maybe half that of newer Winchesters which, until 2 years ago, were selling at our club gun show twice per year for $12 per M. Also still have some RWS that the LAPD used to sell as distributors, to raise money for their marksmanship training programs, and some Norma Berdan primers I use for a few chamberings. Guess I'm primered up for the rest of my days, but I still don't like the way inflation has proved to be "under control". (Would our government economists lie to us? Nah.......) My country gal's just a moonshiner's daughter, but I love her still.

The problem buying from Grafs or Midway is the UPS surcharge. I am fortunate that I bought a serious supply of all primer types when Clinton's Attorney General, Janet Reno, was going wild as an anti-gun liberal. Visiting local gun shops I find that there is an average of $1.00/hundred for primers, averaging over $3.oo/hundred. I still have some CCI SR that I purchased for $1.00/hundred thirty years ago. BTW, they still go BANG!! every time I pull the trigger. With what I said about Janet Reno earlier, guess what's coming if the Demorats win the White House in 2008. Think about it! I've used CCI primers for over 20 years without a problem in easily 100's of thousands of reloads (used to shoot in IPSC, metallic silhouette, high power, etc) I'm still shooting from bricks of CCI rifle primers that I bought for less than $10/1000 when I stocked up during the "primer shortage" of the 1980's. I've been getting WLRs for 19.99/1000 at one shop. I'm sure they'll go up any day. I paid 25.99 for 1000 fed 215 GMM primers not too long ago and just ran out. Went back to the same shop and they went up to about 35/1000! I think I'm just going to order some in bulk before too long. Only thing I buy for reloading at BP anymore is Hodgdon or IMR powder when I only need a couple pounds. They are pretty reasonable on that. Good Luck Reloader

Roger, I use the CCI #34 Primer with my M1 loads. They seem to be god for that purpose. I have not tested them in a bolt gun against FC210M primers or WW LR's, but they have gone bang every time I pulled the trigger. I just ordered 5000 from Graf, but be advised there is a $20 hazzardous fee tacked on. I added some Varget to the order. Kudude

I'm curious what numerical designation(s) your primers have. In bygone years Winchester standard large rifle primers were designated "8 1/2-120" I don't know whether there was any numerical difference or other designation difference between those and the ones labeled "Western." Today the "Western" and the "8 1/2-120" designations are gone and the Winchester standard large rifle ones are designated "WLR" "How's that whole 'hopey-changey' thing working out for ya?"

Just got off the phone with Graf.Ordered 25000 primers and was told that only the first 5000 were at $59.49. the other 20000 would cost $120.00/5000. Did not read the caveat in small print on the cover. oh well. I think I'll go paint a rifle stock. roger Old age is a high price to pay for maturity!!! bartsche, I don't understand the $120/5000. Perhaps you are not talking about M34 primers? This was copied from the Graf site and is what I ordered yesterday. The first 5000 were $59 the balance was $79.99. CCI PRIMER M34 7.62mm NATO-SPEC 5000/cs Price: $79.99 Availability: In stock Item Number: CCIM34 View all CCI products

Yes I know about Graf's sale. My point is if you go look online they have the same M34 primers for $79.99 and you can buy a million of them at that price...

You may be right but the gal on the phone lead me to believe that the $59.95 price was the 50% price and good for only 5000. For the other 20000 i'd have to pay the full price. Well if 50% is roughly $60.00 a 100% is what? Some how I was miss lead. I will call again Mon. Thanks for the info. You're a good Man Gunga Din. roger Old age is a high price to pay for maturity!!! bartsche, Yes she told me the first one was $59.95 and any others would be at full price. I said sure and told her the online price was $79.99 and I would like some of those. In reference to Gunga Din I do believe I would consider you the better man as it was your message yesterday that caught my attention about Graf's prices. Thanks...

Bartsche: If you are talking about the war to liberate 16,000,000 Iraqi's and enmesh them in freedom and democracy as "being a pointless war" - then you ARE as stupid as your picture makes you look! You are lucky your grandkids aren't speaking German right along with all of Europe! You sir, are living proof that stupidity knows no bounds! I, for one, look forward to the day that the Iraqi people can live in peace, liberty, freedom and self determination! I view you Bartsche as a short sighted, cowardly cocksucker (typical Kalifornian?) - nothing more nothing less. Long live Iraq! Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

boy I would really like to get them at that price ie.. cci m34's, just don't know if I want to call Grafs and find out the shipping. Couple of days back had my daughter pick me up a 1000 Fed GM210M for 27.99--Sportsmans Wh. Nothing around here that I have seen for CCI M34's for my Garand.

I have had some real accuracy loads using CCI primers. But I normally buy Federals, and have generally good results with them too. "Bitte, trinks du nicht das Wasser. Dahin haben die Kuhen gesheissen."

I would really prefer that NO-ONE"S children or grandchildren were ever required to engage in a war. However, I don't quite get how anyone who lives in the U.S. could fail to understand that a war has been forced upon us, and it shows no sign of abating any time soon. Those who wanted to kill us on 9/11 still want to kill us. I personally would prefer to fight them in Iraq and other offshore locations, rather in the streets of American cities..... However, I agree that this war has been poorly prosecuted so far, and that overwhelming force should have been applied at the outset! "Bitte, trinks du nicht das Wasser. Q: What are your shipping charges to Alaska/Hawaii? A: Shipments to Alaska and Hawaii will be billed the actual freight charges. The $3.95 handling and insurance charge will not be added to these orders. Plus the $20 hazmat fee for the primers.

Well ,VG, I signed up to defend this country long before you were a sperm. Not to offend anyone, but I think I missed smthing . I didn't hear of US being attacked until 911, so where was the defense line? Moved to Europe or Vietnam? Pearl H? That is ways away from the US borders.Maybe I should flip some pages in the history instead of the reloading book. Survival of the fittest? That's just natural selection.
