I used this load with sierra, nosler and hornady bullets from 62 to 69 grains with little variation in groups. 24.5 grains of IMR 4895 gave me 2850-2900 fps out of a 20" barrel with 1/2 moa groups AR-15 should work but the load was near max Kerry [This message has been edited by Kerry.S (edited 04-25-2002).]

A load recommended in an article in precision shooting for any bullet from 68 to 80 gr. is to fill the case with VV N140 (26-27gr.) and push the bullet in. It works! This came from a bunch of 1000 yd. shooters btw. You might find N140 a bit slow for the light bullet in a short barrel but it is safe, accurate and not far behind other powders in achieving top velocity.

The 4895 load mentioned earlier is usually a good bet. Also, 26.5 gr of Varget with a 68 - 70 gr bullet is a pretty standard load for High Power Service Rifle shooters. If you don't have Varget then try Re-15, it's burn characteristics are very close to Varget. ------------------

I shoot 24.5 grs of Varget behind Sierra 69's out of my Service Rifle.

Thank you for the repsponses. I take it that I should try to load for the higher end of the velocity table while staying within safe charge limits? Unfortunately, the only powder I have on hand is WC844, I will try to acquire some of the others. Thanks again for the pointers!
