I was at Wally World today and browsing through the gun magazines I don't already subscribe to... when I saw a rather interesting "sniper rifle" on the cover of this month's "Guns & Weapons for Law Enforcement" magazine.

 -

The cover rifle is chambered for .280 Ackley Improved. I thought, "Huh? For police sniping? A wildcat???" Well, I bought the magazine for the data (nothing new -- a 1/4-MOA load with RL-19, faster loads with RL-22), but it just intrigued me that I found an article on this round in a magazine for law enforcement types.

Anyway... I just thought I'd post yet another source of data for this cartridge for anyone who is interested.

It was about 25 or 30 lines of fragmented data. If you just absolutely don't have a bookstore within 20 miles that has it, I guess I can sit down and type it in... or maybe someone here can buy it, scan the data, and E-mail it to you. It's not a real expensive magazine.

Oh, also, you are correct in that it was a three-shot group.

Russ, I wouldn't mind comparing trials and tribulations on my 280AI with you. Can't seem to get support, even from the original smith. PM and e-mail from there if interested.

I will share what has to be one of the best 140 gr. loads for this round. A good friend also had one built and tried his best effort to improve it, could not be done. 63.5 gr VhitaVouri N165 powder, Nosler 140 Ballistic Tip seated .010" off the lands. 5 shot groups into .600" the NORM, try it you`ll like it, Tim. 3225 fps 24" barrel

Smooth, mild, satisfying. Suddenly, I have an urge for a cigar. [Cool]

Thanks for the load tip.
