tiggertateKeith, you might want to look at IMR Trail Boss. It's in this month's American Rifleman.

Hog KillerI have 5744 on hand, it has left unburned powder in the barrel. This is with 29.0gr and Lyman 515141 cast.
Got lots of Unique, IMR-4895.

fla3006What about 3031, a favorite for medium charges in large straight cases?

MssgnI'm working up loads for my 50-70. The loads with IMR4198. I wasn't getting accuracy until I worked up to 27 grains. That gave me 4 inch groups at 100 yards. Max book load is 30 grains but I haven't tried anything over 27 yet. I'm also getting decent accuracy with 3031 but also getting a lot of unburned powder left in the barrel. I have more loads of 3031, 4198 and 5744 loaded up for my next trip to the range, but I might not get there until after hunting season.

dpcdNONE! Use what it was designed for; it is better, safer, and a lot more fun.

Scota4570Ditto, stick with black.
If you absolutely must try something else.............Blackhorn 209. It is a modern bulk smokeless.
