By DaMan,

I think you would be better off with a bullet like the Speer 158gr LSWCHP.

Perfect. Oscar

The Original poster needed info for the best loads for his Snubnose revolver.

These links offer most likely the best and most comprehensive gathering of information on the subject.

Any questions you could possibly have can be answered here, especially on the S&W forum.Their knowledge far exceeds mine and will tell you exactly what you need to know. Oscar

Well it turns out that Magtech sells factory
ammo for 357mag in 95 gr hollowpoints. This
was courtesy of an earlier poster. That will
be what I will start out with. I see some
85 and 90 grain .380 ammo and it might
not be worth the xtra trouble. To those what
want to reccomend what is best is ignoring the
recoil problem.

Also up until about 2004 Aguilla sold some
aluminum bullet ammo of extreme velocity
that impressed greatly a couple of LE guys
that I found talking about it on the net.
I didnt get the specific 357 specs but the
45 ACO ammo weighed 115 grains and the muzzle
velocity out of 1911 pistols was 1515 fps.
I think the .38 cal ammo was in the neighborhood
of 65 gr per bullet. Now that is what I would
like to see. Also, the mention of frame cutting
with lighter bullets is not so.

What SW was advising against was use of shorter bullets because there was additional erosion in the Titanium chamber cylinders with some gasses
erupting around the outside of the bullets
before the bullets entered the forcing cone.
Chamber bore pressures do not change whether light or heavy bullets if you follow load data recomendations. That is the whole idea
of load data, to load up to the SAMMI max
minus some percent safety cushion. The SAMMI
max does not change with bullet weight.

My reason for asking is I want to shoot a 90gr speer "9mm" (.355) jacketed bullet in a 38 or 357 magnum pistol.

preventec47,If you mean, will they go down range, yes.

If you want max velocity but don't care about penatration, load a .38 cal gas check in a .38 Special case full of Bullseye with a small mag pistol primer. It should approach the speed of light with virtually no recoil and only penatrate maybe an inch. That should match your stated goal pretty well.

If you seek suggestions/opinions but won't listen to them without insulting those who offer anything but what you want to hear, what's your point? I mean, if you're the expert why do you bother with us dumb people on the net?

Get a life little fellow.

I noticed you have a M27,also my favorite along with my M28's.

They were just so well made! My favourite wasn't a Model 27 - to be strictly accurate - but if I just said "357 Magnum" some wouldn't recognise what was meant! From Harrison Carroll. I wonder if he still is about?

A lovely old five screw "N" Frame, 5" barrel "357 Magnum"...that rather than surrender for destruction when handguns were banned in UK I gave as a present to a German. I wonder if he still has it?
