Is it possible to just make one of these rather than buy one? What would have to be done to a case to make one? Does anyone know what tap is needed? Thanks

Yes you can. You need the 5/16"X 36 Tap.
Infact you actually get a "better" reading of your rifle's chamber by using a fireformed case.
Use a drill press or hobbie lathe.

Wouldn't you have to open up the neck a little too so that the bullet can slide through?

I use a sized case and split the neck so I can hand press bullet. Seems to work for me.
