Hey guys, I just picked up a box (250 qty) of Laser-Cast 405 grain .459" diameter and 100 Remington cases. I've got a good supply of IMR 3031 that I intend to use. I'll be shooting though my Marlin Guide Gun and am looking for a powder weight that is a bit stouter than a plinker and less than a teeth rattler. If you got a good one, please let me know. Also I'm assuming that gas checks are not required at a lower powder charge. Thanks

If you pick up a current (August 2007) copy of "HandLoader", Brian Pearce has an article on loading for Marlin 45-70's. He has multiple power levels, powders, and bullets, cast and jacketed. He does not, however, show IMR-3031 with Oregon Trail bullets. Comprehensive article.

Google is good, if you don't mind getting your load data from the web... http://data.hodgdon.com/cartridge_load.asp http://www.loadswap.com/display.php?action=view_load&ta...=405&cartridge_id=98 http://www.reloadersnest.com/detail.asp?CaliberID=91&Bu...ight=405&LoadID=9079 http://www.reloadammo.com/4570load.htm And no handloader's bookshelf is complete without a well worn copy of Ken Water's Pet Loads. It is chock full of the data you seek. http://www.riflemagazine.com/catalog/detail.cfm?ProductID=37
