SlattsNeed info on Laser-Cast 405 gr and IMR 3031 in 45/70
Hey guys,
I just picked up a box (250 qty) of Laser-Cast 405 grain .459" diameter and 100 Remington cases. I've got a good supply of IMR 3031 that I intend to use.
I'll be shooting though my Marlin Guide Gun and am looking for a powder weight that is a bit stouter than a plinker and less than a teeth rattler.
If you got a good one, please let me know. Also I'm assuming that gas checks are not required at a lower powder charge.
Thanks

Winchester 69If you pick up a current (August 2007) copy of "HandLoader", Brian Pearce has an article on loading for Marlin 45-70's. He has multiple power levels, powders, and bullets, cast and jacketed. He does not, however, show IMR-3031 with Oregon Trail bullets. Comprehensive article.
