Personally I get better info from the guys on this forum than anything. You guys who have real field experience and tell it like it is makes more of an impression on me than "type writer hunters". When the old Coffe Shop was up and running the guys tere bent over backwards to help people and be honest about things. Most of what these outdoor writers talke about I can't relate to as They "hunt" in the best places around the country or earth and with equiptment I can only dream about. Like one guy said it works or it don't it's a good deal or not. How to hunt on public ground is more important than what outfitter to use (not that it isn't important but I couldn't afford them anyway) How about some realism for the guy that can't afford a custom rifle or expensive hunt amnd can only hunt on weekends ? I envy people who live in good game country and can do it themselves. My life long dream is to get a decent moose or elk but it will never happen, too far away and too expensive. What do I care if Boddington or others hunt Africa. I want some info that will help me in my own backyard and info on equiptment that I can afford.

Hi, I have a friend who is a nationally recognised pistolsmith and a darn nice guy too. I worked as his "advertising agency" when he was just getting started. It was all a way to get healthy discounts on his advertising. He once told me most of the writers are whores- plain and simple. You pay- they write. Guys the one thing the over the counter magazines are for is TO SELL GUNS!! I've been reading some old Rifleman mags from the 50's and they are incredible! Some of the articles actually say something BAD about a gun or piece of equipment!!! Believe it! There is some really good writing and good reading to be had in old magazines like that. I'm sorry to see Rifle and Handloader have gone to crap- you should have seen them in the 70's and 80's. I have one where there was a huge stink raised by the readers because they included a shotgun article!!!! The only magazines I'll allow in the house are the Rifleman- which is a mere shadow of it's former self- and two really great magazines called Precision Shooting and The Accurate Rifle. These are by FAR the best magazines I've ever read. The writers are for the most part just guys like us who take a genuine interest in what they are doing. Sure they get paid for their stories but most of them would do it for nothing just because they enjoy the sport so much. I'm not connected in any way shape or form to these magazines (they are both published by the same outfit)-- just a very happy subscriber... Anyway- give them a look. Precision Shooting Good shooting, Dave L

SST & Gatogordo- Well Said Both. Derf-I don't know if we read the same article of Mr.Jamison or not,on "shooting through wooden dowels".The one I recall showed different than you posted above, that the path of all bullets is affected by brush. No Offense I like reading most of his articles as I do those of others, but since Shooting Times was bought by another company a while back(same one that puts out G&A and the others mentioned) the whole mag is down.I will buy it at the news stand.IF I can find it and it has something in it I care to read.Same with the others.Have to admit the price isn't worth it most of the time.
