son got a 30/30. what is a good powder for it? will be useing 170 f/n. can i use wc-846? long time viewer- new to asking questions. i use wc-846 in my 7.62/51. thank to you all...
There is data for BL-C2, which is the same spec (but not the same) as WC-846. So I'm sure it could be done, but on a low pressure round you may want a cronograph to guess pressure, since you won't find published WC-846 loads.
Lots of people suggest 3031 for 30-30. Don't listen to me, I could never match factory ammo accuracy.

The 846 will work. Use BLC2 starting load data and work up. Only issue I have had is that light loads using 846 sometimes require mag primers for reliable ignition

LVR is my first choice in 30-30 powder, gives the best accuracy in my rifles. I have also used Varget, Alliant varmint, IMR 3031, and Big game to name a few.

Many powders are usable in a 30-30, but after considerable experimentation I believe Varget to give the best accuracy and velocity with the common 125 to 170 bullet weights.

The chrono is a good idea.....don't try and hotrod the 30-30 because with its lower pressure limits and thinner brass than the 7.62x51 and other current rifle rounds you don't get the pressure signs like flattening primers....
