I inherited a 22 x 244 custom rifle from my Dad. It is a beautiful weapon built on an enfield action with a heavy Hart barrel. I have a couple dozen rounds left for it and a set of custom dies on order from Redding. I am generally familiar with reloading practice having been taught by my Dad. However, I don't know how to neck size the 6mm Rem cases down to 22 cal. Is it as simple as running them into the die? If there is a source for this info please point it out to me.

Thanks for your help

Neil

yes, if its no other changes, you can usually take 6 to 5.56, pretty easy .. NOW, it depends on how the maker set it up .. it COULD result in not fitting, if tight necked. Get a set of 25-06 AI dies (generally 20-30 bucks on ebay) and make the necked down 6mm to 22 ... you might need to hacksaw off 1/2 an inch (lathe is better) to use them.. in fact, I would just make up a set of dies from that.

Chances are that the dies you inherited along with the rifle will reform a 6mm (.244 Rem) case properly for your chamber simply by lightly lubing the cases and running them through the die. Depending on how tight the neck of the chamber they will likely not need any neck turning (reducing the thickness of the neck walls) in order to chamber properly. They may need trimming slightly, and will need the mouths chamfered. Its really little different from loading new or once-fired cases for the original caliber.

Like bartsche, I'm not following Jeff's post, but maybe something is lost in translation.
