I've just bought some 250 Gr. Barnes X bullets for the 338 Win Mag. Does anyone have any load data for this bullet, preferably using H4350 since I have a buttload of this powder.

Barnes #3 lists 62.0 to 67.0 grains of H4350 for velocities of 2431 to 2627 fps.

You may also want to try something just a tad bit slower, like RE 19, N160, or H4831. You might get a little bit more velocity with one of those powders, with a similar peak pressure.

50 fps doesn't make much of a difference, though. If the H4350 load you work up is accurate enough for you, I wouldn't bother with anything else.

I'm new at handloading so picked 4350 because there were decent loads listed for my 7x57, 300 Win Mag and the 338, I'm trying to keep it simple while I learn. With only a 20.5" barrel I'm not going for ultimate velocity anyway. I appreciate the info.

I had good luck with H4350 and a 250gr. Hornady. I had to watch it with lot differences more so than with lighter bullets. My first load used 70gr. with no signs of preassure. Next lot of powder toped out at 69gr. All loads worked great, just be careful when changing lot #s.

I got huge velocity gains using this powder/bullet combo in Federals High Energy brass, although I think you have to buy ammo loaded to get your hands on it.

The load produced 3000fps but was over the high end, primer pockets loosened in 3-4 reloads. The bullets had to be seated VERY slowly or cases bulged from compression and bullets pushed back out a bit, seating slowly and using LONG drop tube barely cured it. The same load in normal Federal brass was over 200 fps slower too.

The load was 72gr H4350 or 70gr IMR4831 at 3.340" OAL. I doubt you want to go that high. I STRONGLY recommend you work up from about 65gr and use the HE brass too. My Ruger would hold under .7" MOA with both these loads too, got lucky. Have fun.
