I usually use Federal primers and I have enough for about three more months. A local store finally has some large rifle primers, but they are Winchester brand.

My dad says to never use Winchester LR primers as he says WLR primers have more duds and they are too loose for reloads.

Should I wait for Federal primers or go ahead and buy the Winchester?

Rammag, I have alwasys used WW primers for close to 30 years, never had a "dud" and never had one leak.
I use CCI also. CCIs do fit snugger than WWs when installing I agree, and I use a hand held priming tool so you can feel them going in.

I was starting to switch over to CCI , but just bought some more WWs also because thats all I could find. WWs are good primers and I have never had a Issue with them.

There is a Test somewhere of high speed photos of primer brand ignition and "Hotness" comparison . Winchesters and CCis standard Large rifle primers were good ones as I remember

What??? Nonsense!!!!
Never heard of such a thing. I use Win. primers all the time. I really started using them when I was shooting Black powder cartridges. Never, ever had a problem. I now use 'em in all of my rifles. Grab 'em if ya get the chance.

No problems with winchester primers here. Frankly, with the problems finding some types of primers, I can say I've got a bit of each brand now.

Curious as to how much WLR primers are an where about's you are located Rammag ?

I don't need specifics on your location just general area ; Thanks

I've been using WLR and Federal for better than 40 years and can't recall a single problem .

I can't say the same for CCi as I've had several problems in the distant past with those yet only in

large pistol and small rifle ( Dammed Odd ) .

The WLR primers are $33. I was told they will have Remington 9½ in next week for the same price.

I am not out of primers but am getting low enough to be uncomfortable about it but haven't seen any Win primers for sale anywhere and that is the brand I use for many loads. I am glad the are becoming available again. I didn't think there was any difference in performance between CCI and Win large rifle primers until I used some CCI's in a 270Win load and the group opened up some. I miss the days when I could walk into any shop and buy all the primers I wanted at $10 a brick!

The only problem I've had with WIN primers is when I didn't have them fully seated.

If the Large Rifle Winchester primers are as good as their Small Rifle primers, buy all you can get.
Win's Small Rifle primers are THE best primers available in several loads for 223's and 222 Mag's. Accuracy is less than 1/2" for 3 at 100 yards.

South Louisiana. Small rifle primers are readily available here, with quite a few Wolf LR and SR primers.

I have found Winchester LR primers to actually be more consistant in velocity with all of my loads than the much sought after Federal 215 primers. NEVER had a single dud or any other problem. As a matter of fact, the only primers I have ever had any problem with in my 31 years of reloading have been with Remington 9&1/2 back in the late '80s when they and IMR powders were owned by DuPont.
