Dear All,

Does anybody know if any of the large die manufacturers (Redding, RCBS, Hornady etc) offers the service to hone your FL die to a specified inside neck diameter?? Forster does, but sadly does not offer the caliber I'm looking for (9.3x62).

If any of the other die manufacturers does offer this service, are contact addresses and prices known??

Forster does that and states so in their catalog.

There is a guy in Schertz Texas that can hone any brand sizer.

Stillwell Tool and Die

His main business is cast bullet sizers but he will hone sizing dies too. Price list

Redding. I sent them 5 fired cases and the die and less than a couple weeks had it back with a new improved die.

I have honed out a 7mm RM RCBS die by using a 3/16 inch dowel rod that I sawed a longitudinal slot into to hold a strip of Emory cloth. Miked my once fired brass. Then chucked dowel rod in drill and worked back and forth. Then resized a case to confirm the fit I need. Took 3 try but I got it just where I want it. Sure is easier on split case necks, expander, and works good! YMMV James beer

A few years ago RCBS honed a sizing die for me. They requested a couple of once fired cases from my rifle and did a great job with a short turnaround time. Excellent customer service!!!

Before spending money having your dies honed try and size a few cases without the expander ball and measure the necks. Every once in a while your die will size them just right without any other hassles.
Of course you can also turn your necks to a specific thickness to get just the right amount of sizing........................or you can have your dies honed (in some language that translates into something very painful Smiler )....................................DJ

Good points, Guys.

I asked at RCBS and got the following reply (thanks to RCBS for reacting to customer inquiries):

quote:
RCBS does not hone existing hardened dies. We can polish the neck no
larger than .003 of the existing neck size. If any larger, it may become
rounded or distorted and soft.

We need 3 to 5 fired cases to modify and check die.

If you have a local machine shop, they possibly could do the job.

We do offer custom made dies to fired cases.

Please, no go between vendors.

What did that cost you? and how long ago was that?

Sorry, can't provide any insight on Redding's custom die offerings. What I can say, is that Hornady will also build a custom die for you - for about 100-120$ plus shipping. I got one this year, and have been very happy both with the general quality and the finish of the die.

If you are interested in the Hornady option, there is more information in this thread: https://forums.accuratereloading.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/...=618100494#618100494
