No, Gamekings are not match bullets and should not be so used!!!!!!!!! They are only good for game and would likely cause a nonfatal wound to a paper target---this should be avoided at all costs by using bullets only for their intended purpose.............................ok, ok, I'm sorry! Just couldn't resist after the previous Matchking "controversy"!

At 300 meters or less Pro Hunters may be the best deal for target shooting. How they shoot of course whatever bullet they are is up to the rifle and you. In smaller calibers the varmint bullets shoot very well also. For the money the 80 gr Sierra SBT is a great performer for me.
There are pages and pages on the match king tread and the one shot one elk one match king tread. read them all. Two camps come out one that says they work just fine the other say they don't

I REALLY wasn't trying to start up the matchking thread again--I was just smart a$$ing! I have found that Sierra bullets are usually quite accurate regardless of their type. If the hunting bullets shoot best in a match rifle, then by all means use them!
Good Hunting,

Guys: This was mostly a play on the old thread, which was really quite remarkable. It is quick to see who sees and reads carefully and who has old eyes like mine.
Sierras are fine bullets, adn I am off to the range with some 150 grain MK's for my single shot to see just how good it can shoot, then I try and match hunting bullets to the MK groups.
I missed the original thread on this. Sounds like a real doozie. I was told as a youngster starting out, "Use Sierras at the bench and Speers in the field." That was pretty good advice then and is at least partially true now. Admittedly my Nosler Bal. Tips are not hollow points but they sure perform well at the bench. Sierra are the poor mans benchrest bullet, wonderfully accurate for the money. It's just an old codgers opinion. Best wishes.
Here we go again. Heavier game kings are an excellent bullet for metallic silhouettes @ the 500m range. They have much better dwell time on the target and some people won't use match bullets on the metal at these ranges since they won't knock down the rams as well as the GK's.
Deke.

ANY bullet that shoots well enough can be used for target or match shooting. The name has nothing to do with its terminal performance on a paper target.... When shooting critters, terminal performance enters into the question.
Jameister, While the Game king is not a match bullet, there is no reason why it can't be used for match use. The important thing about match bullets is the accuracy and external ballistics. If you get the required performance, go for it. One fringe benefit would be the use of a single load for both hunting and match. That has a lot to be said for it. Since the matchking bullets should not be used for hunting, the gameking could give you the best of both worlds. Good luck.
