Smart or stupid has nothing to do with your banishment around here. If you can’t play nice, you’re out of here but that takes a while. You have to work at getting kicked off this forum.

He used to be on HuntAmerica when it was running big time.

I found his info geberally good. I have always agreed with him that ultimately the brass is the test for pressure. If any one does not believe that then do the following:

1) Pull a factory round apart and deprime the case.

2) Anneal the case head.

3) Reload the round with the same powder charge but obviously a different primer.

For those not familiar with this the result will be the brass will show up as a massive overload.....yet the pressure according to a guage will be OK.

Well, I'd suggest that you don't try a Contender or similar action. If you use brass as a guide for pressure safety, you'll have wrecked the gun LONG before you make the brass fail. While some of HC's info was good, he simply could not accept that the measurements he so voraciously touted as gospel were merely a tool and NOT the final word in pressures.

Maybe he is just busy with the DNR explaining those references to the "many thousands" of deer he killed...

I tried finding the original post where Hot Core made that claim. I don't know if I really found it, but what I saw made me think HC said it in jest. Than stuck to it, maybe too proud to take it back.

He attacked me, claiming that his competitive shooting experience was longer and more extensive than mine, and therefore his expertise was greater in the particular topic at hand.

And I don’t think so.

If I meet him at Camp Perry this year, how would I recognize him?

Bottom line............

AR used to be at the top of the list of sites but now it is at the bottom and seldom gets visited

All the personality-challenged uninteresting blowhards that ran rcamuglia off and Hot Core tagged seem to have won the day. There are lots of other sites like Long Range Hunting, 24 Hour, Nosler etc etc that are much more alive and interesting.

Perhaps someone will come along that will pick up the interest but the fact is they would have to be much like rc or HC

Hot Core has left the site of his own volition (i.e., he was not banned).

Instead of publicly lamenting his absence in an off-topic thread, why not privately ask him to come back?

George,
If you read all the posts it should be clear that not everyone is exactly "lamenting his absence".....some might even be cheering same.....

Yes....I emailed him a link to this thread and asked him to comment but it seems he currently wishes to abstain.

There's a lot to be learned about participation on the forums from folks like Hot Core and a few others that have gone by the wayside....but then most of us are hunters and shooters and reloaders.....not necessarily sociologists.....

I agree with Woods.....we're missing a flavorful ingredient to the forums in the loss of Hot Core and Rcamuglia....

Mick would know about being an asshole...

That said, some of you here still have not learned about life cycles.

For everything, there is a small, intimate beginning. Then, the multitudes observe the early people, lacking a central hobby to build their lives around, take up the chosen "New door to Nirvana." The activity becomes the new national pastime, the old guys see the folks with too much $$$ and time on their hands sweep in and overpay for something unique and special to take into competition for the Alpha Male title, and fade away. The new thing loses its fanatic following, and over a couple years, the activity reverts to the original group that truly enjoyed the activity, and the crowd, still lacking that core activity that they can wrap their lives and spare cash around, moves on to the next great thing.

Remember the craze for Honda cars?
Remember the craze for carphones?
Remember buckskinners and the Hawken rifle craze?
Remember breast implants and the competition for trophy wives by all those mostly impotent 55-70 year old dudes with $$$? That one is still going strong, especially at DSC and SCI conventions.
That one reminds me of a story I heard. A man and his wife, both sixty, got a divorce after forty years of marriage. The old man moves to Florida and takes up with some thirty year old woman. The old woman stays in Texas and takes up with some thirty year old guy that does the yard and house maintenence.
Christmas Eve the old man calls his ex, and is woofing about this 30 year old girlfriend. The exwife tells him about her 30 year old boy toy. Then, she asks the old man if he can still do simple math in his head?
He says, certainly. Then she asks him how many times 60 goes into 30. He says, it doesn't. Then she asks him how many times 30 goes into 60. He says "Twice". She says "That's right, have a Merry Christmas" and hangs up on him...

Most recently, remember the Harley Davidson insanity that swept the nation starting about twenty-five years ago?

My favorite T-shirt for fifteen years or longer was the one that had "If you ain't ridin' a Harley, you ain't shit!" That one always left me with the appropriate judgment; if you ride a Harley, does that mean you are shit?

This forum peaked as a free exchange of information and experiences about mid-2010. There are only so many cartridges and animals to be hunted with them, and telling of things relating to the two.

I hunted RSA in early May of this year. After some pressure, I wrote it up. Most of the comments were from people saying that catching the flu sucked, and a bit of faint praise for not letting it ruin the hunts.

There simply is nothing new, under the sun.

God has blessed us all, and life is a wonderful thing. Every day is a blessing, to be treasured. I was nineteen, and assigned to a MACV-SOG unit, Ly Tin 17. The first time I saw a young Marine and five NVA soldiers get shot dead, I realized that. It has stuck with me to this day. That is reality...

vapodog,

I did read the entire thread. Yes, there are people who do not miss Hot Core or rcamuglia (who was banned for cause).

However there is no disputing that Hot Core (and Steve Ricciardelli) no longer participate for their own reasons.

Threads like this one, started by 'fanboys', are pointless in that the person they miss is the one who has walked away.

BTW, we all know that participating in an internet forum exposes you to people who are likely to rub you the wrong way. A thick skin comes in handy.

Some people are know-it-all blowhards; some people are ne'er-do-wells. 99% of the participants fall in between the two extremes.

George

Too funny. I haven't had much time to play with that 350 yet. My gun range currently has a ban on anything over 7mm. Long story but they are fighting the city so this year it's small bore fun again. Next year I'll try to break out the medium bores and have some fun.
