im just starting to play around with my 416 Ruger, and was wondering out of all the various 416 400 gn proj which are the 'SOFTEST'...expand most readily on game the size of cow elk , as im planning to use it on Sambar Daniel

The softest would be the Woodleigh 37C 400gr RN SN which also should be easiest for you to obtain... Jim "Life's hard; it's harder if you're stupid" John Wayne

JIM I thought the same, and took delivery of 2 boxes today im thinking of the 400 gn hawks , but the opinion seems to be very divided on the quality of these proj Daniel

Daniel, I've heard both good and bad about the Hawk bullets. I've heard as non-bonded bullets that they're are very sensitive to jacket thickness. Jim "Life's hard; it's harder if you're stupid" John Wayne

JIM same here, i think there really missing a link by not bonding them...they say bonding is detrimental to accuracy......i have shot a lot of bonded bullets with more then adequate accuracy out to 500, and for the big bores 40 cal and up , accuracy is a bit accademic Daniel

I'df advise posting this in the big bores section where the big bore guys "hang out"....they seem to know their stuff. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." jim just spoke with Geoff Mcdonald, and he said he might have some of the old 416 bullets in stock which hunters were complaining about, because they were over expanding..which had a thinner jacket then the current ones in production.....if I can get my hands on some of those proj, I will have solved my issues with not enough expansion Daniel

I have good luck with the 350 Speer mag tip. Gives good expansion.

PDS I when going up in cal I like to use the heavey for cal proj...in the 416 its the 400gn I managed to get hold of some 410 gn MK1 woodleighs which have the thinner jacket which should expand more easily as the jacket is half the thickness of the the current production 410 s Daniel
