M 98416 RUGER
im just starting to play around with my 416 Ruger, and was wondering out of all the various 416 400 gn proj which are the 'SOFTEST'...expand most readily on game the size of cow elk , as im planning to use it on Sambar

capowardThe softest would be the Woodleigh 37C 400gr RN SN which also should be easiest for you to obtain...

capowardDaniel,
I've heard both good and bad about the Hawk bullets. I've heard as non-bonded bullets that they're are very sensitive to jacket thickness.

same here, i think there really missing a link by not bonding them...they say bonding is detrimental to accuracy......i have shot a lot of bonded bullets with more then adequate accuracy out to 500, and for the big bores 40 cal and up , accuracy is a bit accademic

vapodogI'df advise posting this in the big bores section where the big bore guys "hang out"....they seem to know their stuff.

just spoke with Geoff Mcdonald, and he said he might have some of the old 416 bullets in stock which hunters were complaining about, because they were over expanding..which had a thinner jacket then the current ones in production.....if I can get my hands on some of those proj, I will have solved my issues with not enough expansion

I when going up in cal I like to use the heavey for cal proj...in the 416 its the 400gn
I managed to get hold of some 410 gn MK1 woodleighs which have the thinner jacket which should expand more easily as the jacket is half the thickness of the the current production
