Has, is, anyone doing any loading with WC680 powder. I have an 8 lb caddy of it, but no load data, and can't seem to find any. Read an article a bit ago by a guy saying he was using it, but forget the cartridge, etc. If anyone has a source of loading data for it, would highly appreciate being informed of it. Thanks

I have no data, but it falls between IMR4227 and IMR 4198 for burning rate, very similar to Accurate 5744.

Virtually indentical to AA1680, but start low and work up. Your lot may have a little quicker burn rate. I have an 8 lb'er I found at a gun show a year or so ago. It is wonderful in my 221 Fireball and 357 Max.

+1 on 1680 in the Fireball.

As BillCx55 says, you may rely on AA 1680 data a a guide, but as you should with any powder, start with conservative loads and work upward as you prove the burning characteristics of the particular lot you are working with.

Tysue,
It's a good powder for many cartridges that has long been out of production. If you can find an old Sierra manual, it has loads for the Win. 680. I have used it in 7.62 x 39, 357 and 44 mag., & 45-70 rifle only. It is a little stubborn to ignite fully so magnum primers should be used in the straight walled cartridges. It does give higher velocities with lower pressures. However, if you have unburned residue, accuracy will be poor due to varying pressures.

I do agree to using AA1680 data as a guide. Also, I do not recommend cast bullets with 680 powder. The resulting reduced pressure of cast bullets does enhance the ignition problem.

FrownerThe 8# jug of Thunderbird 680 is almost empty. When purchased I was informed that it was surplus 680 (WCC680??) It really filled a nitch for something a little faster burning than the 4198s. It was just great for using cast bullets in my 44 Vetterli, 7.62x41,.358x41 and .375x41.
bewilderedI don't know if I can be of any help for what you're looking for but I'd be glad to start a little chit-chat. beerroger
