Things go downhill up here with a LH twist. Am I right that things down there go uphill with a RH twist?

Big Grin I had a fella who loads his rounds with visible runout explain to me that your position on the earth influences bullet drop! Latitude he said! I said, yes of course it does! Hee Hee! Big Grin He was referirng to the corriolis effect and the influence of the moon.

I would try to use sand bags on the front too make sure it wont move. I would also shoot three shot groups most factory barrels heat up with bigger groups. Most bench rest barrels are heavey big barrels made for that kind of shooting.
If your trigger is heavy that might cause you some problems.
My factory rifles at 100 yard I expect them to shoot a one hole group with three rounds at 200 I always shoot a little to the right I dont know why.
I use hodgen powder.

I think your rifle is trying to tell you to shoot three shot groups.

875x, I was laughing so much I missed you post at first! You make an interesting point! May I ask what caliber and velocity and perhaps the rifling twist direction? Is there any way your scope could be 'not perfectly' above the bore? Scope rings could be a bit off-set. It would be interesting to know the cause.

Getting back to the original question, is it possible that a warming action could cause a problem with scope stress and alignment? After all, the scope has a different expansion rate to the steel action, especially if it stays cooler! Just a thought.

The Right Hand twist in the barrel causes that. I've had one Left Hand twist barrel and the Bullets would drift slightly to the Left with it. There is a technical term for it, but I don't remember what it is.

That gun was a Ruger 77 in a 270. It shoot very good when I bought it. I had a gunsmith work on it he fixed the trigger and scrapped the stock in the barrel channel. That really fixed it up. In getting it ready for a hunt I found out these other problems.
The rest I was using was not holding the gun steady enough.
I was still getting a flyer after trying a couple of my other guns and having the same problem I realized I was using graphite in the barrels I scrubbed that out started using sand bags for a dead steady rest and it shot great.

My opinion (with which and $.75 you can go buy a Soda) is that the problem is one of two things.

First is that you are pulling a bit to the right on the last shot. I know that I had that problem (and since my range time is limited am getting it again). You shoot a string of X, and as you go along you start getting excited or in a hurry and then pull the last shot or every shot after a certain one.

Or, as someone else has mentioned, your barrel is heating up and contacting something in the stock.

Try waiting 20-30 seconds in between each shot. That should give you time to calm down, and your barrel to cool off. A guy at the range suggested that and it seems to work ok.

Something not yet mentioned is your point of aim, and the point of impact. It is possible you are destroying your point of aim with the first shots, and visual problems of the poi may be contributing the "flyer" to the group.
For group only testing, try adjusting the scope so that poi is slightly low and to the left of point of aim. If the flyers continue, re-read the above posts.
Once you're satisfied, readjust the scope where you want it.

I do not have an option for 25.7 I would guess that if I am trying to be exact with my grains I can not. I would have a high end of a 25.6 reading and a low end of a 25.6 reading before it moves to 25.8 (if that makes sense). I don't know if that would make that much of a difference in each shot but if you add a few things like that up im sure it would affect each shot.
I also load all my cases over a digital scale pan, & trickle up to a stable reading, but I still have a beam scale that has a finer increment, beam scales are also very cheap. Smiler

This barrel fouls too much after the third shot.
