Anyone know of a source for reloading data for this cartridge using the Swift A-Frame? I have the Swift reloading manual #1 and it doesn't include this cartridge - 9.3x74R. Don't know about their manual #2, and I'm not getting any response from Swift.

Thanks!

I've got some 300-grain Swift A-frames I load in the 9.3x62 and they seem to be OK. I shot one sambar stag with one and he went down as though blown over by it.

I notice they get expected maximum velocities with minimum powder charges, though, and recall that someone on AR has discovered A-frames seem to generate pressure quicker than some other brands. So, use them but start low and watch for pressure signs.

Thanks! I’m trying some 286 a-frames to see if the rifle will shoot them well enough to be ready for heavier game. At the lighter end, I have some 250 nosier accubonds that are getting just under 2400 fps and more importantly can group R AND L under an inch at 50 yards. Could load them hotter, maybe, but don’t feel the need.

The only problem I can see with grouping under an inch at 50 yards would be that the bullets will probably cross beyond that. The bee's knees would be to have each barrel shooting fractionally to its side, to infinity Smiler

50 to 75 yds with that kind of convergence and accuracy is pretty ideal for me. At least in a double rifle. With my 470 I’ve taken shots to 100, but only with the right barrel, since I know better where it shoots. Only on plains game, also.

With the 470, I’ve enjoyed getting close enough. 3 elephants at no more than 35 yds. 5 buffalo, 1 at 90 and the rest within 50. 3 lions, max 50 yds.

Heck, I’m not a perfect shot and I hate tracking a misplaced shot. Happens, but I hate it. So a practical limit of 50-75 will be just fine. I’ll use this 9.3 on plains game, and think of it as a “long bow”.
