I am looking for a round that will match the preformance of the .270 win in a short action. I have heard of the .270 Redding. I was wondering if there was data on a .308 case necked down to a .270?
Check out the ballistics of the 6.5 Remington Magnum. It's no longer produced, but you can certainly have a short action rifle re-chambered. It would be a nice project. The ballistics are almost a dead ringer for a .270 Wnchester. Good luck.
The new .270 WSM will be exactly what you're looking for. It will be advertised to out-perform the .270 Win, but that will only be hype -- both loaded to equal pressures with proper propellants will be essentially the same.
