I chronographed some loads from my 270 wby Mark V today, this is what I got:

130 Nosler Ballistic tip, 74.0 RL22, 3575fps

130 Aframe, 72.0 RL22, 72.0 RL22, 3401 fps

130 XLC, 74.0 RL22, 3472 fps

Does the Ballistic tip seem a little fast?? Pressure seems to be fine, I was wondering what loads anyone else used.

The chronograph is an Oelher 35P, set 10" from the muzzle.

Hi Bill!! Those speeds are on par from what i have ben told, I know a few people who use IMR7828 & RL22 and they get 3500fps with the 130gr bullet. I recently bought a Model 70 Classic with 26" barrel from a man and he got a little over 3500fps w/130gr bullets too. I am going to try to work up a load for it using IMR7828 and maybe RL25... What primer, brass did you use?

Take Care,
Tommy

Catfish,

How does the 150 BT [erform on game at this velocity?

Tommy,

Glad to hear these are expexted velocities. I use Federal Nickel Brass and the Fed 215 Large Magnum Rifle primer.

The bullets are seated to an almost random length as therte is such a long throat in the wby magnums.

A while back I did an experiment with my 340 wby and seated the same bullet at a bucnh of different lengths, I got the same velocity, POI and accuracy.

Bill
