Does any one have any experience with heavy bullets (160-175 grains) in the 7mm-08. What powders, what kind of velocity adn accuracy?

I have shot 160's in my 7-08. I used H4895. I didn't chrony them but the accuracy was good.

154 to 160's...RL-19 From 42.0 grains to 49.5 grains Remington 9-1/2 Primer

168's...IMR-4064 From 32.2 grains to 42.0 grains Remington 9-1/2 Primer

170's...IMR-3031 From 33.0 grains to 39.5 grains Remington 9-1/2 Primer

175's...RL-19 From 40.3 grains to 47.0 grains Remington 9-1/2 Primer

Played around with 160 Speer Mag-Tips in a 22" barreled 7-08 a few years back - the Mag-Tips are not quite as long as other 160's and allow a little more room for powder in the smallish 7-08 case. With 46 H4350 (compressed) in R-P cases with WLR primers and 2.79" o'all, I got around 2680 FPS and decent accuracy (1-1/2" for 5 shots). Similar results with 47.5 RL19.

Thanks for the tip... I like H4350 so will check my manuals and give it a try. I have a huge number of Sierra 165 SBTs that I need to get rid of.

Good pix, PerN. Well, so much for the info from the 7x57 shooters that a 7-08 can't handle the heavier bullets.

It was a Remington Seven but since it could shoot Stefan at this forum add a 20" Remington Varmint barrel and since I found a crack in the stock i orderd a Mcmillan stock to it. The 160gr BarnesX load shoot ~1" at 100y.

So this is my Nr.1 rifle and I use it for everything from Moose to crows and to compete in the Benchrest hunter class[ ]

Beware of a man with one rifle! He probably knows how to shoot it!

But i have
2:Brno 22lr cheap practice and for shooting dove's and crows at the school yard

3:Sako vixen 222rem wich I use with my students, lovely little gun with no recoil

4 rilling in 12/12-6,5x57R which I use when looking for geese or sitting in a hide for fox

5:M98 in 458Win wich I got this autom just for the fun of it . But I still have not learn to shoot it as well as I want. To this rifle I have started to cast my own bullets, so I will be able to practice as much as i need/want

So you see You do not have to fear me att all
The 7mm-08R is always my first choice since it always does it job if you do your part.
The 22lr are useless on a windy day, the 222Rem hits an invisible twig/grass and the bullets fails, the drilling not over 120m and only one shot else it starts climbing.
The 458Win is so far only a toy and will never become as versatile as the 7mm-08R.

To day I checked an area close to our school where it has been reported 4 moose has been seen yeasterday, calfs left on our licens . I loaded the 7-08R with my new moose load a 170gr Norma Oryx and walked around the area and could se no sign of any Moose. So I changed load to 110gr Speer and clicked 6marks on the scoop and sat down and waited for a fox I have seen a couple of times in this area. After about 40min the fox are suddenly sitting on the field 150m away. It goes down without a move at the shoot. The 110gr left a hole of an inch at the outside and the fox ar now hanging in the boathouse at the school, waiting for the students on monday, wich will have the possibilitie to practice the skinning and discussion about the fox as anatomical and eclogical organism
