Reloder 15 and the 30/30

Might anyone suggest a good whitetail deer load with Reloder 15? I will be reloading for a Marlin 336CS with 20 inch barrel. I have a set of new Lee dies. Haven't acquired any bullets yet. Lots of Remington, Winchester, and Frontier once-fired brass on hand. Various CCI and Remington primers on hand. I have heard that Reloder 15 burns cleanly and will work very well in the 30/30, but most often I hear of IMR 3031, H322, or H335 as the powders of choice.

The clean burning characteristics of Reloder 15 really caught my attention.

Thanks.

Good Luck w/ that 336 30/30. I have tried several loads thru mine and have only been able to achieve 2" 100 yard groups at best.

2" groups are very satisfactory for a brush gun but, it sure is nice to get tight clusters.

That Marlin 336 has put more big bucks on the ground than any other rifle I currently own. Just goes to show that the big boys like the thick brush.

I once killed a 135" 8 point after a pass thru on a 2" sapling 10 feet in front of the buck. The bullet was mushroomed (big entrance hole) and only pentrated about 1/2 way through the buck but, that was enough to drop him in his tracks. Ever since then I have felt very confident in toting the ole' "Dirty-Thirty" into the woods.

My best groups have come w/ H380 and H4895 w/ Rem 150 CLs.

I have tried the HDY 170s and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone (very big groups w/ several powders).

I have heard the Speer 30-30 bullets are good in the accuracy department.

Good Luck!

Reloader, I'm lucky to get 2" groups with my M336 but still love to shoot it. One of my most accurate loads was with a 170 grn bullet and a max charge of IMR4895. I've had my 30/30 for years and have tried just about all the powders in it with cast gc'ed and jkt bullets but I can't remember if I ever used H380. I would like to hear more about your experience with it. BM

PS: edit-Dogger, H322 has also worked very well for me it my M336 with a 20" barrel.

My best load in an old 94 Winchester is 33 gr. of RL15 with a 170 Hornady bullet. Mine are loaded in R-P cases with CCI200 primers and chronograph 2130 fps. In my receiver sighted 94, it never shoots over 1.5 at 100 yds for 3 shots, many groups are around 1". It won't vary 4 fps over the chronograph. This rifle groups 2.5-3" with Remington factory ammo, so go figure that out. I use the RL15 in .375 H&H, 9.3x62 and .30-30, just a powder that seems to work well in any case of small to moderate capacity related to bore size.
