So this is more of just a what if type of deal. I have yet to roll up any rounds for the 500AR. But I was wondering what to do if I make a boo-boo and need to try and save the bullet and powder charge?

I have a RCBS impact puller deal that works good on the standard sized stuff. But the RCBS guys say this will not work on stuff over 45 caliber.

I use a RCBS Collet puller but I've only gone to 416. They list a .500 collet. They alos list a separate die and collet for the 50BMG and 416 Barret.

Make your own hammer type puller.
The first one I made I did out of 3/4" SS pipe stock, the second one I added a short piece of 1" SS pipe at the top to allow even larger rounds to fit. They would both handle 55 Boys/50BMG size rounds, but the 2nd one would also handle the 700 Nitro Express and even some 20mm cannon rounds (the 20x102 is to fat at the base, but both the 20x110mm rounds as well as the 20x138B will fit)

500 linebaugh can be pulled with a impact bullet pullet if you just put the round in it without a jaw installed. Mostly i just pull them in a press with some pliers and toss the bullets back in the melting pot. Its faster to just do it that way and cast more bullets.

Just before Pulling them, take the Seating Die and move the Bullet "into the Case" just enough to break the mechanical grip. Then remove the Seating Die, run the Bullet up through the Press and grasp the Bullet with Pliers, Side-Cutters or End Nippers. They come out relatively easy that way.

I normally use an RCBS Collet Puller, but have used a pair of pliers with Tape on the Jaws for Calibers where I did not have a Collet. Works fine.

Vapo has voiced concern about using Pliers in the past because of the possibility of creating a Burr on the top of the Press(he has recommended the End Nippers). His concern is valid and would cause all your Die Settings to be off. So, you can Tape the top of the Press to protect it, or put a plastic Lid over the top of the Press(with a hole through the Lid) and protect it that way.

Hard to beat good old (Woods autographed) Duct Tape though. Big Grin

collet puller .. the bullets are too spendy, expecially if softnosed, to beat out with a bullet hammer .. however, i did redo my hammer, by drilling it out a bit and using the shell holder in the cap

If you are only going to have to pull the odd round, place the neck of the bullet on a hard flat surface such as a steel plate and use a small hammer to tap all around the neck area. After a few minutes you should be able to pull the bullet with a minimum of effort using some soft-jawed pliers. If you tap it long enough you should loosen the bullet to the point it can be pulled with finger pressure only.

What I have done is to mount a cheap LEE C-press to a wooden board and take it to the range with primed/charged cases, and a bullet seating die. Each case is plugged with a bullet pressed in nose first. The press is secured to my shooting bench with 2 c-clamps. I load and shoot one round at a time. If I get pressure signs I can stop right there and not have a bunch of ammo to break down.

Hornady cam lock puller is the best I have seen. You just have to buy different size collets for each caliber size. It works for any caliber but I use it for all my bigger calibers.

I use the RCBS puller for both my 500 NE and 505 Gibbs. I take out the collet, screw the cap back on and then drop the round thru the top.
For the 500 NE, I put a piece of tape over the end which keeps the cart. from moving when I "hammer" it ( or what ever you want to call it)and knock the bullet out.
For the 505, I do the same as the 505, however, since the cart. will not fit all the way in, I stick the case in as far as it will go, wrap a piece of tape long ways and rap it out. I've also wraped tape around the cart., securing it to the impact puller. It's worked for me
The other day, a another reloader showed me how to pull the standard sized bullets by reversing the shellholder in lieu of using the collet. I was looking for an rubber o-ring, when he showed that method. Pretty slick.
Hope this helps.
