I want to load some light 35 Remington loads for my son to practice with. I need some loads useing Alliant 2400 with 140 gr JHPs and 180 gr JHPs. I want to load them up to 1800-2000 fps until he is comfortable with full power loads. If anyone has a loading manual with these combinations I would appreciate the info. Thanks, James.

James,

I'd be reluctant to load down that far with Alliant 2400. As a general rule I won't load a case with rifle powder unless it's 70% full. People argue about whether very reduced rifle powder loads are dangerous - enough people so that I don't want to be the one to settle the argument!

I'd suggest the 140 gr bullet with 13 gr. of Hodgdon Universal. I have used Universal successfully in .308 and .416 for reduced loads.

I used a computer program (QuickLoad) to arrive at the 13gr. load. Peak pressures are below 30,000 PSI and the speed is 1900 fps.

Hi, James:
Alliant recommends 21.0 gr. of 2400 with a 158 Hornady lead bullet for 1715 fps. For a 170 Sierra FMJ use 17.0 gr. for 1450 fps and 22.0 gr. with the 200 gr. Core-Lokt for 1650. They used the Federal #210 primer. The first two loads are low pressure. These velocities are with a 14" bbl.

My light load is 10.0 gr. of Red Dot behind the Remington 158 gr. SJHP for 1400 fps. Anything lighter is inconsistent. WLR primer, R-P case, Marlin 336 w/ 20" bbl.

Love those 35 Remingtons!

Bye
Jack
