Does anyone have any ideas as to when components are going to start to get back to normal, as far as supply is concerned.

Primers are available, if you want to spend $100-$120 bucks/ 1000ea.on the auction sites.

Once fired military brass is available, after the shut down by the Government for a few days.

Is everyone scared? Is everyone hording?
A little of each? When do you think things will get back to normal?

Back orders on primers are starting to be shipped.

Brass has not really been a problem. I've bought a variety of cases at good prices even after the Obama scare started.

Powder of some varieties is available and I suspect more is soon to come.

CDNN Sports is once again offering assault rifles at less than highway robbery prices but the Kel Tec P3AT I want is still in short supply at ridiculous prices that I will never pay.

In short, I think things are turning around.

With the two stooges in the White House, it could be a very long time till things settle down. Guys are scared that the stooges will figure out a way to sink our ship, and they are stocking up...

Go order now from Cabela's, they accepted last week's order for primers and .223 brass, shipped brass this week and am advised primers due 5/22. If you are not on back order then you stand a good chance of going to back of line again as back orders will be shipped first, then new on line sales IMHO.......r in s.

Here in NY i know of two local gun stores that are getting weekly / by-weekly orders in of some good powders, but nimrods are quickly grabing them. The primer shelves are still empty.
"In the store that is."

I don't expect a change until the 2010 elections. IF we throw the liberals out, we get back to checks & balances in our govt. & things will quiet down. If the liberals remain in office, I expect matters to get worse, much worse. They will view their reelection as vindication in their flawed policies & you'll see antigun legislation &/or taxation. THen you'll really see panic buying. Eeker
The CLinto admin. & liberal control of the govt. gave us Brady & the AWB. THey will have learned form the flaws in those early pieces of legislation & the next crafted to stick. The taxation part will be far worse. PBO is spending money at a rate that this country has never seen, even the Carter years are starting to look good compared to what's happening now. It will only get worse unless people wake up & throw liberal congressman out. We need checks & balances, not one party, socialist rule. knife

I picked up some powder this week at my local store, just to try something new. I already had several years supply. No primers available but already have enough to last until things get back to normal. Been through this before, if you havn't, let this be your lesson, next time you will be prepared. It doesn't matter who you blame, it is going to happen regardless who is in there, blame the reaction on yourselves. Good shooting.

I really like your comment on "next time be prepared".

We would all be wiser to have a year's supply of food and a multi year supply of ammo and reloading components.

Fortunately, those guys run around like chickens with their head cut off instead of placing a backorder and waiting.

You conspiracy theorist need to take a timeout, if you're honest with yourself, this primer/powder shortage started when Bush was still in office.

100% correct, the shortage started back in 2007. I hit every online retailer back then. Noticed a huge drop off in availability and back-order dates

Other than .223 brass, which I have a lifetime supply, I have NEVER had a problem getting brass, powder or primers until Jan of 2009. I have been stocking up for years, so I have all I need, but if you can't see why people are worried after all the proposed laws and talk about gun control by these folks I think you need to read some of the laws that are being proposed word for word. Will any ever pass, I do not have a clue, but never say never. If a man buys two weeks food before a predicted two feet blizzard in North Dakota, he is considered prudent, but if the same man tries to buy two years worth of ammo and or components after the most liberal man in the history of the country is elected, he is called a moron!

i have walked into two stores, in a chain, and was able to pick up thousands of pistol primers, they had thouasands of rifle primers, but those are on allotment (300 per visit).. and they had CASES of bricks of 223 winchester.. and the 223 was only 20 bucks more than when all this crap started.

STOP BUYING PRIMERS at 100 bucks .. and NO FOOL is paying that price anymore .. dropping back down to 70-75 in auctions, and 30-35 in the stores, if you can find them.

back orders are catching up, folks.. CHILL

What do you consider "normal"? If we insist on hording shooting supplies whenever there is a liberal administration or a liberal congress or an activist panel of judges then it could be a very long time before the market for shooting supplies gets back to being driven by "normal" consumer demand.

I don't know exactly what constitutes "hoarding". I try to keep a goodly supply of components on hand merely for the convenience. If I find a particular bullet that I like, I lay in a good supply. Why not? I load for several rifles so why not keep a good supply of primers and powder. I never looked at it until now but I have enough stuff to ride this out and I truly hope the turds that are buying up stuff just to sit on and re-sell end up taking it in the shorts.

You shouldn't have slept through 2011 and the first 11 months of 2012 when you could pick up just about anything you wanted off of the shelf.

After the last year of panic buying supplies are returning toward normal, with spot shortages persisting. The problem challenging both manufacturers and retailers is the knowledge that the panic buying saturated the market to a significant degree and they are reluctant to build stocks which may sell much more slowly. Nothing shuts down panic buying like the hoarders seeing pyramids of components stacked in a store, so sellers have to be careful how much and how quickly they restock. Simple business sense tells you that you should take a "short" position on components at this phase of the cycle.

Stonecreek, you may be right. I got frustrated a few years ago about not being able to find H1000 anywhere, so I just gave up and decided to just shoot very sparingly and wait for the hoarders to get enough and stop buying it all up. Now my supply is getting scary low and I've been looking again and not finding any. I guess I should have kept looking for powder; maybe I gave up too soon.

I'm also looking for CFE 223 and Nosler LR Accubonds, Barnes TTSX and Varget. Pretty much everything I'm looking for is out.

I did a search and found this thread and thought it was interesting. I wasn't aware that there was a time in there when supplies were on the shelf.
