oehler 35.. period...I know how you are eric...Get the best..This is the one I have..

^^^^is what my good friend LeeC suggested in the last thread, but when we tried to order one online they said that they are discontinued, as Lee noted that I want the best, $$$ isnt the issue, I need something I can load up in the truck take to the range and in the Vegas Sun have something reliable and accurate, it will be used for 500grain bullets going around 2500fps, nothing silly like 5000fps or cannons etc, thanks guys i really appericate the help. I'm off on a elephant hunt soon and my friend who worked at a ballistics lab dosent work there anymore hence my need for this.

sorry about the spelling,
I missed that class.

Look,
buy a shooting chrony and use it till you shoot it.. you will.. and it's the same accuracy as the oehler 1/2 of 1%

or, in another view, do you use EVERY function on your cell phone? things like games, calculators, messages, internet browsing, scheduler? mp3 player? camera?

no, you don't.. no one does. bell's and whistles dont' really excite me...

btw, I've got a pact pro, 4 or 5 chrony's, 2 pre "3rd screen" oehler around here or with friends that i've proved this assumption over..

if you want to know how fast your bullets are going, get ANY chrono... if you want sd... get a piece of paper and do it

I'm supprised no one has mentioned the CED Millenium. It's as accurate as anything on the market, you can download dirrectly to your computer and it does the calcs for you.

Eric, I've had a Pact Professional Chronograph for several years and am very satisfied. It has done well in all types of outdoor lighting conditions. It has some deep software included, which I don't use much--yet--but it's there if you like it. It also has a remote computer with a 15' or so cable, and your just shooting through the screens, so if you kill one, it ain't that big a deal.

I use a cheap laser boresighter to set up my screens and rifle and that really minimizes your chances of blasting your screens. The new ones even have and infrared lighting option for indoor shooting, I bought these new skyscreens so I could use it for my bows and check their speeds inside. (don't shoot my rifles in the basement)

They are available at Midway and others, I think it's worth a look.

Regards--Don

I completely align myself with Jeffe's remarks.
I'll add that when you eventually put a bullet through a $90 Chrony you'll feel a bunch less
remorse over it than you will when you perforate a $300 Ohler.

I've seen both happen.

BTW, NEVER. EVER! UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!!
let someone else shoot across your chronograph
If they want their load chronographed YOU SHOOT the velocity shots and insist on several extras so you can see where their firearm is shooting...

Hey Eric,

I figured you would be able to find one SOMEWHERE. I have scoured the web, and tried looking for you, but could not find one..I read a couple of article, and from what I can gather the CED millinium is a close 2nd...Use your own discretion, as I have never used one.. Sounds like I need to ebay mine, and try to make some dough ehSmiler

Alas O-35, I know her well. I've missed Chrono 1 and have come late to Chrono 2. I ponder a few points as I have passed a decade and approach to end of another decade of shooting at my Oehler's large skyscreens while my $300 brain sits beside me at the bench. Me or someone else would really have to try hard to shoot the brain. Speaking of shooting at little screens over the brain does anyone else make screens as large or larger than the Oehler? How about sensitivity? Does anyone else offer a second proofing screen or is everyone able to cull shots as they think necessary? The new Milleniun does seem interesting in 15 maybe 20 years from now when I might need repairs or replacement. Best-o-Luck

Mike,
I am certain you know that chrony makes remote "brains" as well... touching post, but dated...

so, we could restate this...

"the remote brain, the remote brain, undamaged during the strain" .. of stopping a charging chron0... now, which one are you more happy about replacing parts for? the $119 one that you can replace the "downrange dumb parts" on for about the same money in parts as the $300 one?

looks nearly 3 to 1 to me, in investment, for the same results and the same price in replacements...

the oehler is better ONLY for it's third screen
