The cross sectional drawings that appeared with the first ballistic silver tips didn't show the same cross sectional configuration as ballistic tips.
Rather than having the plunger-type set-up with an airspace behind a shaft that extended behind the tip into the core, the BST seemed to be little more than an open tipped bullet with a plastic insert in the tip. Much like a bullet we used to have up here in Canada called a Sabre Tip.
