My younger brother just dropped from 310lbs to 180lbs in the last year. His primary hunting rifle is a 300 Weatherby Mag and he normally shoots 165gr Weatherby Factory ammo. Well....now that he has lost the weight he doesn't care for the Weatherby recoil but because it was a gift he doesn't want to sell it or replace it with a new rifle.....I know I know....but he is a one rifle kind of guy.

Does anyone have a reduced load for the 300 Weatherby that would get him to about 2400-2600fps with a 168gr TSX or 165gr Accubond?

Well puzzles like this always come up....to do so, you will have to think outside of the box...

But the following can give you some accurate loads within the velocity ranges you are looking for.. and do not need filler in there either, and a large rifle primer is fine, you don't need a magnum primer.. even if it is a weatherby case...

Blue Dot, in the 30 to 35 grain range, work up of course from 30...

RL 7... in the 40 to 45 grain range...

Sr 4759...37 to 42 grain range...

IMR 4227....37 to 42 grain range...( or H 4227)

IMR 4198.... 40 to 45 grain range...( or H 4198.. I prefer IMR;s)..

IMr 3031... 50 to 55 grains....

RL 10... 48 to 52 grain range...

5744...43 to 48 grain range...

Remember to work up from the lower suggestions here.. and verify with your chronograph.....

those should put a 168 grain bullet in the 2400 to 2600 fps range...

personally, I'd tackle it with Blue Dot, SR 4759, RL 7 or 5744) the less powder used, the less recoil...

none of those powders are position sensitive with those loads....

good luck...

Seafire,

Thanks for the information. I will pick up some Blue Dot later today.

4759 makes some guys more comfortable as it fills the case up more...either should work well....

I think I would be more inclined to load very slow powder to fill up the case and have reduced velocity than to load my 300 weatherby with blue dot.You could get an accidental triple charge in that big of a case.
Something like WW870 or another surplus powder for the 50 bmg would give lower velocity and close to 100 percent loading density, instead of an inch of powder in the bottom of the case.

Thanks for the input.

After speaking with IMR I going to a 40% load off of their max load.

Thanks,

Bruz
