I have two recommendation that should fit your budget and both are "starter kits", one is the RCBS Rockchucker, the other is Redding's. You can't go wrong with either one.

Are you just getting into this "hobby", or are you just wanting a new press? If you're looking for a single stage, I'd agree with buckshot and get the rock chucker, or the rock chucker kit if you're just getting started. I am using a rock chucker kit (plus the other stuff that didn't come with it), and it's very smooth, and user friendly. Only problems I've had have been from user error. If you're looking for a progressive, I've heard nothing but good about the dillon presses.

P.S. How's the weather down there? Spent 2 weeks in Surfers Paradise a few years ago. Can't wait to come back again. Planning on going to Cairns for my honeymoon.

Sambar, I have a Lyman Turret Press. I'm sure a lot of people put these presses to good use, and I suppose I should recommend it, given that I have one. However, compared to my Forster Co-AX, the Lyman Turret is just so loose and sloppy that I have a hard time saying much positive about it. If you really insist on a turret press, then shell out the $$$ and get a Redding.

In single stage presses, Redding sell some great presses, the ubiquitous RCBS Rock Chucker is never a bad choice, or if you feel wealthy, the Forster Co-Ax is close to being the "Mercedes Benz" of presses for screw-in dies. (We'll leave out metioning arbor presses and stuff that is primarily used by the BR crowd).

rcbs supreme...
best $100 bucks i've spent on reloading...

i think that kit is 30 more than the rockchucker, and is a far better press.. longer handle, smooth action, 4.5" of throat

At the risk of sounding like an apostate..

Lee is an OK press to learn with. Cheap, decent, and it works. If you really get into it, you WILL buy a better press eventually, but if you are just trying to figure out if you want to reload or not, a Lee cast press is an ok option.

Currently I use a Hornady Lock and Load press. Although that is partially from loyalty to my home state (Nebraska). Big Grin

I started out with a RCBS RS 2 back in the 60s. Recently added a RCBS Partner for bullet seatng only. I'm finding the Partner will do anything the RS 2 will. If you are on a budget, I recommend the Partner. I've used it for sizing magnum cases; it's performance is anything but budget.
