I have heard great things regarding this product but can't find it anywhere. Can you tell me where you got it??
|
<monyhunter> |
You know what, I'm at work right now and don't remember the URL. Do a search for wipeout on this board and someone posted a link not more than a few weeks ago. That is where I got the link.

Ain't it great? I used to dread cleaning rifles. Now I look forward to getting them back to bare bores lightly oiled and stored. Wipe-Out is sexy. ![]()

Sweet's 7.62 will do the same..! Alternatively.. use electrolyte cleaning, followed by brush, solvent and elbow grease. Outers had a gismo for this.... K&B Niels

I have been using Sweets for about 25 years. I tried Wipe-Out and did some comparisons to Sweets. Sweets doesn't even come close to what Wipe-Out will do. I dropped copper plated steel jacketed bullets in cups of them both. In about 18 hrs the Wipe-Out bullet was clean steel and the Sweets bullet showed a small area of clean steel and a lot of tarnished looking copper.

The general concencus is that wipe-out is the best thing since sliced bread. I wont argue that. I do however wonder if you can overclean a bore?

Holmes and Jim, "Best thing since sliced bread" is what I said last time. Wipe-Out is "sexy" was an attempt at varying the tune a little, but yes, I have scrubbed way to many barrels with brushes. Now I let the Wipe-Out do the work while I go do other things. ![]()

I think Wipeout is a good product, but really, what will it do that Hoppe's Benchrest won't? I've cleaned neglected bores with Hoppe's BR by using the overnight method. After 3-2 overnights the bores came clean with the Hoppe's. With Wipeout, after you get all the copper out of the barrel, you can still get dark patches if you brush with a solvent or RemClean. Also, it will not remove lead or lead-lube fouling. I think Wipeout is OK but it is a little overpriced.

How does Wipe Out smell? This might sound silly, but I have been giving a bunch of rifles a thorough cleaning over the last couple of weeks. That means the house has been continually filled with what is to me, the delicious aroma of Hoppes Benchrest or Barnes bore cleaner. My wife has other olfactory tastes, however. She overheard me telling my son how good Wipe Out is supposed to work and suggested that I buy a few cans. But, if it smells like the other stuff, I wont be very far ahead, except perhaps, in cleaning time. Thanks, viator

I recently purchased some Wipe Out and have been cleaning several of my rifles with it for the first time. First, it works exactly like the instructions say it works. Second, it does not rust or damage barrels when left over night. Third, it has an unpleasant odor if you stick you nose down close, but it is essentially odorless if your nose isn't right in it. I can't wait to see what this does to the accuracy of these rifles. Ku-dude

I ordered two cans but should have gotten a case. Mr Paul, of Wipe Out, says take a rifle you believe is well cleaned(sweets, foulout, etc) and give it a dose of wipeout over night and see what comes out. It's made a believer out of me. Can a barrel be to clean? I'm not sure the final chapter is written. I do know that wipeout uses a lot less sweat, has less odor, and cleans very good. The hardest material to remove from my rifle bores seems to be the deep carbon fouling. Now I'm just pushing out the copper and powder fouling. I don't try to take out the last traces of carbon. I have liked it so well that I'm thinking real hard of trying his Flush Out product. Your mileage may vary, it does come with warnings. Don't let it sit long on non steel items like stocks, brass, alum, others. Read the literature on his site or his cans. Clean up any excess, don't let it puddle up on the wrong things and I think you'll be happy. Best O Luck

Wipe-Out is the best bore cleaner that I've ever tried bar none. There are so many shooters on this board that thought their rifles were clean to find that an overnight treatment of Wipe-Out showed different. After an overnighter it's as simple as a twenty minute treatment after a shooting session to keep your gun clean. Once you catch on to the foam it's odourless and dead simple. 470 Mbogo

I leave it in my barrels for an hour of so, clen it out completely then clean with Rem oil or whatever to get the lead and other stuff out..takes about 2 or 3 patches and its finished.. Wipe Out is the best thing I have ever used for fouling and fouling is the only thing that counts really... A real fouled bore should get the overnight treatment, but I don't normally let mine get to that point...Also I don't like to get them too clean...

You talked me into ordering some Wipe-out. I have already emailed for instructions. It sounds like both my wife and I need to thank you all for your help. viator

You will be very pleased. You should post your results on this thread so we can all see what you think.

Is Wipe Out usefull for cleaning handguns? What do y'all use for cleaning out lead build up - which is mostly around the forcing cone area?

I e-mailed them and they said no one in Canada is selling their product yet. You can get it direct, but, cross border shopping is a hassle.

How does it compare to Shooters Choice?
|
<monyhunter> |
It doesn't. There truely is no way to compare it. Works with no scrubbing, few patches, and time. By the way. I am going shooting this weekend. Don't know if my gun shoots better when it is this clean, but we'll see this saturday. I will be sure to let you all know.

I have got to try this stuff. Does anyone know if CR-10 contains any acids or ammonia?
|
one of us |
CR-10 does indeed contain ammonia. I have been working with Wipe Out for nearly a year now and have documented my trials quite thoroughly with a variety of firearms. I will be posting the results soon in the Product Reviews forum. While it is an excellent product, it is not the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Factory barrels respond quite differently to it. Wipe Out will always be an integral part of my cleaning regimen, but so will products like Sweet's and CR-10. Additionally, I believe the standard solvents, e.g., Hoppe's #9, Butch's Bore Shine, and Shooters Choice, all have a place on the shelf, as well. My post should appear in the next 7-10 days. Wipe Out works great. It contains monoethanolamine (MEA) which is basically a liquid soap that is corrosive to copper because of its ammonia (ammonium) ion. MEA has an ammonia odor but has been hidden by whatever else is in Wipe Out. I have been using MEA straight instead of Wipe Out because I can buy it cheap, but it doesn't work as fast as Wipe Out. I think the foaming agent in Wipe Out keeps it in contact with the barrel surface which helps clean it faster than just using MEA. Either way they work better than anything else I've ever tried. It is amazing to be able see bare steel again inside a barrel!! Will

Does it remove moly? I went to their website but don't recall seeing if it removes moly.

Is Forrest Bore Cleaner the same stuff as Wipe Out? It is a foam system and the cans look similar.
