According to the Sierra Manual 5th Edition N140 looks like your powder. 51.3 to 57.8 Max. with the 225 bullet. Gets you near 2700 fps that's smoking for a 35 Whelen. Is it a bolt gun?

N-140 sure looks to be the powder of choice.

The Hornady manual also shows it to be excellent.

You don't need Swift data for their bullets....as long as you work up you can use data for almost any 225 grain bullet.

BTW I think 2,700 is a bit optimistic with 225 grain bullets but you won't know until you work it up.

Vapodog

That is probably right a little optimistic. But if polar has access to a chronograph I sure would like to hear from him when the results are in on that load. I haven't personally used it.

Jay...it seems 2,700 in a 338-06 and 225 grain bullet is a commonly found result in the reloading manuals. One should think it's also achieveable for the 35 Whelen......but the manuals I have seen just don't show it.

Some things we just accept and move on .....some (like this one) cause me to scratch my head a lot. It should be achievable.....

Famous last words!!!

Swift's manual doesn't list any loads with VV powders, or any loads with 2700 fps velocity for the 225 grain A-frame in the 35 Whelan. The Vihtavuori website manual doesn't list any loads for the 35 Whelan.

BL-C(2) start 56.3, max 60.5; highest velocity listed at 2623 fps
RL-15 start 54.4, max 58.5, 2601 fps lowest std dev.
