How To Shoot More In Less Time

Years ago I got an ACCURACY INTERNATIONAL match rifle in exchange for.

Shot it a few times and was very impressed with its accuracy.

The other day I thought I might try shooting it more.

So having a few different factory ammo, and some reloads, I started shooting it.

I don’t like to shoot rifles with very hot barrels, so made an air hose I can connect to an air tan, which I use in the shooting range to charge air rifles.

The hose is connected to the tank, the other end has nothing on it.

I put this at the chamber end, and blow air through the barrel after each 5 shot string.

By barrel cools so much faster this way, and one can shoot a lot more than waiting for the barrel to cool down normally.

I will post pictures.

I thought you were going to say a mini gun rotflmo

Was a guy on the castboolit forum, dead and gone now, that used a similar arrangement such as yours except it used chilled water.

We actually use a wet towel when shooting out in the desert.

Great idea.

I am able (forced) to use the Earth’s atmosphere.

Tomorrow the temperature here will be -11 C.

Somewhere, I have a small yellow fan with a tube on it. It was made by a guy in California for match shooters.

It functioned as a chamber flag to show that the gun was unloaded on the line but the "flag" part was a battery operated fan that blew ambient air down through the tube into the barrel.

It worked pretty well on those matches in Southern California where it would get to 110-115 F (43-46 C).

I seen a rig that used those little 12gram CO-2 cartridges.
the guy just run it in place of the bolt and turned a valve to shoot the gas down the pipe.
it didn't take long.

That would last very long.

I suspect we use the equivalent of several of these to cool a barrel between shots.

I like the idea, Saeed, but would use it after every shot, to keep those pesky molecules from leaving the barrel within the five-shot groups.

If you remember that compressed air cools as it expands, you have why that works so well, Saeed.

I would be cautious using such a set up in a humid environment as you could cool enough to get condensation on the thing (like a gas regulator in the summer here...)
