I read a very comprehensive evaluation recently on the web comparing Lee, Dillon, RCBS and Hornaday.

He declared the Hornaday LNL AP the clear winner.

The Dillon boys had a cow. Big Grin

wildbill,

I have a Dillon SDB that has loaded close to 50,000 rounds of 45 LC for cowboy shooting and hunting. Every Dillon comes with a lifetime, no small print BS warranty. You break it, they fix it. Free, You wear it out, they rebuild or replace it. Free.
I shot IPSC for years. Two friends and I went in on an SDB in 38 Super. Over a hundred thousand rounds. It broke. We sent it back. They sent us a new one with apologies for the old one wearing out.
That's the part comparisons don't figure into the review.

The Hornady AP is in fact a very fine tool!

My personal opinion after purchasing LNL first and then the Dillon 650 second is that the Dillon overall is a the best high production press out there. The quality and craftsmanship is excellent. The costs are also astronomical. The setup times are long and I find it best to set the Dillon up for one caliber and let it alone to prepare 10's of 1000s of rounds.

i believe the forte of the LNL press is that the cost is low, the change up time for a new caliber is fairly short and if you have less than a couple 1000s rounds to get through it flies. Most handloaders I believe fall into this later performance profile as a sweet spot. The LNL is the kind of progressive press that is cheap to acquire and can support you very well for a evening of loading prior to next day at the range.

I love 'em both!

from a COLD start - dies in the box, never been used on the press or adjusted
took me about 5 mins to
change the shellplate
lubed the removed shellplate
removed the old dies
lubed them
snapped in the first bushing in
ran the ram up and screwed the die in, backed off 1 turn, locked the ring
adjusted the expander/primer pin
repeated buching for seater and then crimper
(total time about 1:30)
next 3:30 spent on adjusting the powder charge, as i had switched from 45LC to 458 AR

then, about 2 mins, set depth, cranked out 50 rounds, put up dies, removed shell plate, transfered powder back.

i LOVE my LNL AP
