I have made 55 grain .308 caliber bullets out of aluminum.

Any guess what velocity we might get?

Well... You'll probably be able to clear the bar at 3000 FPS at least once. Things migh get messy the second or third shot though. With a coating they might work a lot better.

I would think that if you could obtain some of the Remington accelerator sabots, that with your CNC lathe you could develop a working load that might be pure hell on varmints at least at modest ranges. Getting that bullet down the barrel at 4000-4500 FPS would seem likely to be the hardest job.

I am making them slightly under size.

And will coat them with Tungsten spray.

I will use a barrel scope to check for any fouling.

I tried normal aluminum rod, and it did not work.

I could not get them to finish smoothly.

Then someone who knows better brought me a different type, and this worked great.

I am in the middle running a 22 rim fire test.

Once that is over I will shoot these.

I think the problem will be not enough space in the case - the bullet is the same size as a 150 grain!

I am supervising someone building a rifle - showing him what to do, and he is doing a great job.

But I like to be in the next workshop so I am making these aluminum bullets.

Finished making the 308 caliber, and then thought of making some 25 caliber.

I will try these in a 25-06, and a wildcat I built on the 300 Winchester case me led down to 25.

I thought these larger cases will give a bit more leeway in powder capacity.

With the 25-300 Win Mag I got 4158 FPS with a 75 grain bullet.

The 308 bullets I made slightly undersized - 0.307, and I have coated them with two coats of Tungsten disulfide.

I thought this might help in not stripping the material in the barrel.

This is all new to us, so any helpful suggestions would be greatly received.

Somewhere I have a couple 45 auto's loaded with a nylon of some type HP bullet. Someone gave me a handful to test. In a 22" barreled 45 auto single shot I once had, they got almost 2400FPS, in a 1911 I think it was 1600 fps.
Seems WW made some aluminum bullets in 45 auto also.

Have not shot these yet.

The figures I posted are of a normal 75 grain bullet.

I think I can make them down to 25 grains clap

That should be fun.

I only got 5 meters of this material and have asked for 10 more.

I have made 3 different weights and shapes in 30 caliber.

Will try the same with 25.

Everyone is laughing here.

The smallest practical bullet I could make in 25 caliber is 17 grains!

Made a few, and they look very nice.
