I'm looking to buy a new chronograph that works. I've had Pacts but have very bad luck with the latest model. Any ideas?

I purchased the Beta Chrony for $80.00 - it has provided good results with very little hassle.

At the beginning there was a learning curve involved, sunlight, difusers, distance from Bench etc. to obtain consistant readings but generally these are easily mastered after a coupla sessions.

It's getting plastic surgery at the moment - kissed her with a 250 gr. .366" Nosler BT - Whoops!

Cheers,

I've used the Beta Chrony for years. It has the readout on the end of a cord so it is easier to see as well and you can reset withoug getting up. Critical at a public range. My Buddy had two more expensive units gave up on them and bought a Chrony. I can count on 2 hands the number of firings it missed. I always use the difusers and set it as far forward as the cord will allow.

As usual just my $.02

+1 on the Pro Chrono. Never had a misread and it's almost too easy to setup. The LCD is large enough for even my old eyes to see at 15 feet. It's also quite reasonably priced.

I have the blue Chrony. I have had it give me error messages many times. I guess it has to do with getting the screens set right and the body close to level. I have not used it in a long, long time. I have not launched a round since November 8, 2007...

Thanks for the replys, I bought a new control box for my Pact to replace the one that I dropped off the bench. Along with the new IR screens maybe this wont be such a pos as before.

On my second shooting chrony. First one died after about 10 years of service. Actualy it did not die, due to use/abuse I could no longer read the digital numbers on the little screen of the unit. I bought a new one and its working fine.

With so many AR members lauding praise over RCBS products, I can't believe none has recommended their new chrono...the one that looks like a bullet.

The Chronys are pretty basic, but they seem to work pretty well......

+1 on the Shooting Chrony with remote display, you can get an F-1 Master for well under $100, it has a remote display that sits on the bench, mine works excellent, and it won't hurt your pocketbook too much when you shoot it!!

I have a chonry and have been thinking of 2 things, up grade or buy a printer to plug into it.
The printer is cheaper. But I found you cannot shoot with it on a overcast day, or when heavy cloud passes by. So that means I need a near perfect day to shoot. Almost unheard of in Maine. I have missed many shot because of this reason. So I was thinking of the upgrade to a unit not so light sensitive.

+1 on what he said.

I too use a Beta Chrony and it works great - as long as I shoot the bullet down the center, across the "eyes".

The only time I've ever gotten an Error Message was due to my lousy bullet placement through the diffusers.

I don't have a printer (don't even think it will hook up to one), I just write the velocities down on a yellow legal pad as I shoot.

Easiest way to find out if your Chrony will take a printer or not is by looking on the side of it. There will be a small hole to plug in the printer. For mine, looking straight at it as if I m shooting, it was on the left.

I have the pact professional with the new Mark IV skyscreens, and it is great. I never seem to miss a shot due to the unit not picking up, even on really overcast days. It has a printer in it, which I don't really use, but if you do, I can tell you it is that 'heat sensitive' printing paper, not ink, and it will fade in time. If you want to keep your printouts, you need to copy them after your range session.
