Jeff,

I've been having very good luck lately with Midway using their catalog and phoning in orders.
Got some EXCELLENT custom loaded 222 Remington Mag ammo from them. Couldn't find 222 Rem Mag brass, so I bought loaded ammo for the brass. Can't believe the awesome accuracy it provided. Nosler is custom loading ammo for them, and I got 4 shots in a 3/8" group at 100, with one shot out of the group opening the group to 1/2". Shot it yesterday.
Nosler has a sub doing the actual loading, there in Oregon. They use 50 grain BT's.
Kudos to Nosler and Midway!! thumb

I made and order and usually get some sort of confirmation email from them with the order and order number. Its been a day since I made the order and haven't received anything saying it go through.

Today I tried to order some once-fired 378 weatherby brass they had on sale. I was to the last checkout page and ready to enter my credit card when 'available' changed to 'out-seasonal only'.

That's crap. Mad

Parts of the country experienced internet problems due to a variety of weather-related reasons in the past week or so. Midway may have fallen into that category.

I checked it today, and all was fine.

Gee, I'd hate to be near you in the grocery store when someone grabs the last on-sale roast -- just before you do.

Business is business, and it's first-come, first served. "Nuff said.

Bobby, you're right that business should be first-come, first served. But I think you are missing his point. Using your example, imagine if you were grocery shopping and you put the last roast in your shopping cart. You wouldn't be pleased if someone grabbed the roast right out of your basket.

I don't blame Midway too much for such a mistake because having a perfect website is difficult. Their website is more sophisticated than most, but they don't have the technical resources of a company like Cabelas.

Let me tell you about Cabela's the week before Father's Day.

I called about a particular item, was told they had three and that one would be held for me. The guy first looks in the computer but aks me to hold because he wants to double-check what is still on the floor. He comes back and says "yes, we have them, and I'll hold one for you." So I give him my name, and we make the long drive over.

They guy who helped me could not be found. No one else could seem to locate the held item or the other 2 that they may have still had. And their "technical resources" indicated they had not had any in a long, long time.

Hmmm.

No company is perfect. And no "system" is, either -- or else everyone would be using it. (And, it still takes people to operate those "technical resources" you mentioned.)

But retailers do run out of merchandise. Just because someone has an item in their "basket" while ordering online should not prevent someone else from buying it. Heck, I started an order a while back, forgot about it and a week later went back to the vendor's site. My basket still had the 3 items in it, but should they have held them for me all of this time just because they were in my basket?

I say no. But that is just my .02.

By the way, I do see alkinin's point and sympathize. Perhaps once an item is in your basket, it could be held for perhaps 15 minutes or so. But think about the gray areas this would get in to.

Say John Doe takes the last seasonal-only item & puts it in his basket. Another guys sees "out of stock/seasonal-only" and quits browsing, moving instead to another vendor where he finds the item he wants -- and eventually buys it there.

Upon checkout, John Doe changes his mind and dumps the item.
