What velocity can I expect using a 160 gr. bullet and a max. charge of R-22 in 22" barreled .280. Also, what is the max. on this combination? Thanks, John.
Hornady shows 56gr for 2800fps (22"bbl.) Barnes shows 53gr for 2770fps (24" bbl.)
I think you can realisticaly expect an honest 2800fps frm any 22" bbl. Some rifles will get close to 2900fps w/ "fast" bbls. I'm getting my .280 in a month or so; M70 in a new wood stock w/ a 23" Pac-Nor bbl. I'll keep you posted on the load developement. Good luck!

You might could if you really wanted to get a hair better than that, if you are loading a rifle that is built for the 62,000 psi class of the 270. The 280 is held back a little in pressure (60,000?) due to Saami standards. That's, if you like to play in un-charted territory with things that go "BOOM". FWIW, Dutch.

I was able to get 2800-2850 using RL-22 w/ 160 gr. Sierra BTSP bullets out of Rem 700 Mt. Rifle in .280 (22" barrel). Imr-4831 took me up to around 2900 fps w/ Sierra BTSP. When I switched to 160 Nosler Partition, the best I could get was just over 2800 w/ either + H4831 powder.
