I'm looking for a load for a 223 savage axis using 62gr FMJ-BT Hornady Bullets.
Probably try the loads in an AR .223/5.56 as well.
any one tried imr3031, imr4064 or IMR4895. what were your results good or bad.

IMR 4895 in 5.56/223 w/ heavies will be your best option of your 3 listed powders in a bolt gun.

used all three.
one of my PET heavy barrel target loads is with 4895 and the Sierra 52gr. hollow point.

Have use all three I prefer a good ball powder over them.

Just because a ball powder meters so much nicer.

Ball powders are hard to come by around here and sold out on the net.
SO i have this surplus of stick powders that I don't use much.
I picked up a Lyman Gen 6 powder dispenser a while back and it does a real good job on weighing stick powders.
one of my go to powders is H414 and I read on Hodgons site that they have discontinued it in 2020.

760 is out of stock as well.
I think I will try Imr 4198 I have a good supply of it. Even have a 2# supply of old stock.

You werent kidding about it being old stock. lol

4198 is a super accurate powder, but a tad short on velocity in most cases, but in t he 223 I think its right up there in velocity..

I use H335 and H322 in the 223, 222, and 6x45 almost exclusively..but that stuffs hard to come by.

I liked IMR 4198 too, and still have some from long ago. When I couldn't get any more (several years ago) I changed to LT-32 for both my .223s and my AR. It works very well and the kernels meter better than IMR 4198.

Either of the 4198 powders, H or IMR with a 55gr. or lighter bullets makes me a really good shot. Scary accurate.

Above 55 gr., either H or IMR of 4895 and 2520 makes me again a really good shot.

I like ball powder as I can dump load with my powder measure with great accuracy..stick powder need each load weighed for the most part..H322, H335, H414, WW760, varget, have worked best for me and created my best accuracy in all 224 caliber varmint rifles..If one must use stick powder then use the shortest stick you can find and/or be prepared to weigh each load is a good idea IMO.

I know you asked about stick powders but I just received 10# of Accurate 2230 at a fair price and it has broad application in 5.56 and 308

I agree; last weekend I shot 140 rounds at PDs - sure wouldn't want to load those using a scale. In .223 I find BL-C(2), CFE 223, or H335 all work great.

I load for my son's .223 Ruger AM bolt gun using the Sierra 65gr SBT bullet and 25.5grs AR2206H powder re-labelled as H4895 for the USA market.

The load is 0.2grs over maximum listed by Sierra for their 63gr SMP bullet producing 3100fps MV but works fine in the Ruger at that charge with the slightly heavier 65gr bullet.
The H4895 powder is a fine grained stick powder and meters well.

I haven't bothered to chrony the load in the Ruger as the barrel is chopped to 16" and fitted with a suppressor. Him and his wife have taken a few feral goats and red deer with the little rifle, works well with these heavier bullets.

I remember back in the day of old 4831 and such as 4350 when weighing each charge was the norm, spent more time loading varmint loads than shooting..

I don't have to weigh any powder like 760, DFE223 H414, H380 Balc2 322 and 335..I can load 500 in an evening and thats a good day on the PDog or rockchuck hunt they back on the loading bench..most of these powders fill the case pretty well for a verbal inspection...I like that..

How about some of you guys with the slow 1:12 twist barrels. Twist rate can make a big difference with different bullet weights.
